I wouldnt take too seriously abt what you get from non-official websites to MOE. The schools and MOE takes their map seriously and only accepts anything and everything from SLA. If SLA says, Jurong is less than 1KM from Central, they will abide to it like the rocks! We had the scenario that my blk were within 1km but SLA maps says it is 1-2KM. They, "the schools and MOE", says take your case with SLA. They will only take what SLA says despite they knowing that it is that near and within the 1KM circle.
We don’t like it either but we were fixed up by SLA and their maps. Trust my words, but you are better off paying for SLA maps. It cost only $2. So skip your lunch and just pay for it if you want something that is accurate and accepted.
As for me, we decided that we had enough with schools that they are too good for children and parents. They held their opinion against logic and common sense. We held our heads high and went for the schools that welcomed us. Gan Eng Seng Primary, here we come.

Hi khorhar, I know for a fact that can.com.sg (and now mylifestylemap.com) uses SLA's maps. So you can safely use it to get a very good approximation and then check with the school subsequently. Save that $2 for only if there is some discrepancy. Also, it is oversimplifying the situation to say that the schools don't want our children. It is simply they cannot cope with all that demand. If that makes them proud and arrogant, then we have reason to lambast them, but I don't think that is the case with the majority of good schools in Singapore. -
I did a measurement for U, from Henry Park Primary School to Blk 156B which is near Queenstown MRT is about 3.4957 Km

hi MrBean, how did u get such a specific measurement? I need to know the distance between blk 234 tampines st 21 and st hilda’s pri school. Do u think u could help me find out or tell me how to? thanks alot!

went to check can.com.sg for the distance from my house to Hougang pri..says distance 1.055m..which is > than1Km..after reading this thread..decided to pay the $2 to SLA to check cos i'm half hearted to to PV :lol:
results - SLA pri school listing from my address to hougang pri..- within 1KM...hee hee...so if i go for phrase 2C may still stand a chance... -

Can do it as a sticky where a list of measuirng the distance from the school. I believed all school would able to provide you the distance of the house. -
i did checks with a few sources, eg. can.com.sg, elite.com.sg, and the distance between my home address and the school we were interested in was between 1 and 2km.
i wanted to confirm so i called up to school to ask. school came back with the answer that my house is 2km from the school.
I assume that falling on the 2km mark is still ok, considering that the categories are 1-2km, and 2km, and therefore we should still fall in the former. I checked with the school and the response came back that from the previous MOE advice 2km falls in the category >2km ...

anybody has experience like that? I really need help here, as it is clear to me mathematically that 2km is definitely 1-2km, and not >2km. -

Since you have checked with the school which confirmed that you are 2km from the school, you can simply ask them if you will be considered as in the 2nd band (1-2km) or not. The school's answer is the definitive one.
