2016 O levels (Kids born in 2000)

Congrats janet! I have heard from many parents that the poly route is quite a bit more better paced than the frantic A-level route. If your son prefers to learn at his own pace, he will blossom under that programme.

Thanks Chief
he is not academically inclined...so the A level route is out for him. -

There isn't a tender.
i think every poly will call for tender for own students...not sure about that.janet88:

Do all polys jointly call for a tender such that all laptops offered to the students are the same or each poly calls for its own tender.
although i saw acer and asus laptops offered for this year's intake, the vendor is different from 2016.
The polys may recommend a minimum spec to vendors keen to participate in these roadshows. Some schools / faculties will also offer their recommendation on minimum specs to students. It's an open market and up to the vendors to put up the best deal / offer. Some vendors offer discount (typically on higher end models) while others may throw in extra apps / software for free.
If there's no tender, it could be a ITQ (Invitation to Quote) by individual poly or jointly.
TP laptops list is not available yet and its road show will only be 24/4~28/4.
I googled and realised that all the brands, models and prices offered to NP, NYP, RP and SP students are the same (with only exception that Macbook Air is not available at RP). I guess TP will also have the the same models.
I bought 2 lenovo Yoga 3 convertible laptops 3 years ago and they are still working fine. The only problem was the SD card reader for both sets was able to read but unable to write and one usb port for 1 set was functioning intermittently. I had them replaced the defective parts 3 months ago before the 3 years warranty expired.
dd wants to get back lenovo (probably Yoga 910) as she's used to the touch screen and there wasn't other poblem. It's also light enough. However, lenovo is not participating in this year's poly laptop fair or tender. I doubt lenovo will be in the TP list. May have to get it at the coming IT Show at Suntec. -

I received an SMS to make an appointment at the IT side to download some software/applications after getting the laptop. It would be advisable to get the laptop earlier and get the software downloaded before school term starts. As parents, we feel very happy for our kids to get to do the course they want.

Yes, you can if the IT is willing to entertain you. Some students may use their laptops from secondary schools (or from home) and need not buy a new one. Week 1 is mostly introductory lecture and may not necessary require the use of laptop.

Mr Bean:
TP, Culinary & Catering Management
hi Mr Bean,
Which poly and course?slmkhoo:
dd just received email from poly that her DAE is successful.
The poly's webpage for checking the status of DAE outcome has also been updated to \"Successful\"; Course Acceptance Dateline is 28/2/2017.
Good Luck to everyone waiting for the outcome.
Congratulations to your child
noticed that Polytechnic offer new, interesting courses!
besides Culinary & Catering Management course, are there similar food-related courses in Poly, say, kind of similar to Shatec courses : where they teach students direct hands-on-cooking skill, so students have to cook inside the kitchen & prepare sumptuous meal (restaurant standard) ?
if Yes, which Poly offer such courses ? -
slmkhoo:
Congratulations, simkhoo & your daughterMrsKiasu:
Best of luck to your dd, slmkhoo. Interesting courses and looks like suit her. Writing, like her mommy

She likes writing her own stuff (fiction), and is usually resistant to writing things that other people tell her to write (like essays). I hope, if she get into the course, that she will be prepared to learn and practice writing other types of material as required. Me, I'm no good at fiction - not enough imagination!

this is the first time i heard of Creative writing Diploma offered in Poly, very interesting !
