      Farrell:
Can any parents share your view on Sengkang Primary School please? Thank you.

Hi Farrell, I hope my reply has not come too late.

My views after the open house this year:
      1. People - I receive positive vibes from the key personnel and they not only complement one another but also support one another. Mrs Teo, who is the current Principal (took over from Mrs Rabia Shahul last Dec), came across as a very thoughtful person. Vice Principal - Mrs Loo who has vast experience in the education field, started off her teaching career in Cedar Girls' Secondary, was very motherly and puts people at ease. Mr Devindra, the HOD for CCE, has this infectious enthusiasm within him to spur the kids and everyone else around him.

      2. Facilities - You can be assured that your children have plenty of space to roam, given that the size is comparable to the size of a secondary school. It is airy and has good lighting coming into the school.

I thought the school will look old since it was the first primary school to be established in SK, so i was pleasantly surprised that it is comparable to a new school.

Huge synthetic field. The science lab looks new, nice science garden to harvest some crops ( too bad it was raining at that time, so we can't visit). There is also a cultural and heritage centre, open stage performance area where we watched hand bell performance which is their niche programme. Very dedicated music teacher, if your child is interested (or might be interested) in handbell, perhaps you can consider SKPS.

      3. Students - The head prefect gave a speech to all the parents. I can see that he was super nervous, nonetheless it was commendable. Overall, students are polite. You can spot some boisterous children but I think that's quite normal, I don't expect children to be too prim and proper all the time - that to me is abnormal.

      4. Parent Support Group (PSG) - Very strong support from the parents. The PSG Chairperson also gave a speech outlining the following (can't remember all, but these are the key points):
      - SKPS was not her first choice, not even one of the choices. It NEVER occurred to her that her 2 sons would end up in this school. One of her sons has graduated, did well enough to qualify for Integrated Programme.
      - No one would question how well you did for your PSLE, or which primary school did you go in your resume.
      - Primary school is the key foundation of a child, moulding one's character and offering life skills.

Ok, the above is debatable, but to summarise what she is trying to say: Neighbourhood schools also offer your child a lot of opportunities to grow, with the help of the teachers and collaborative parenting approach, your child will not be left out, because they truly believe in every child's potential. The later part of your child's life is the key - it is only after you have gone through your formative education that supports you, especially in the real world.

In short, the school offers opportunities for students to shine, whether one is an introvert or extrovert, there are various recognition platforms that the teachers will help to boost the children's self-confidence. It also emphasise on enhancing student's creativity through product designs and ICT projects.

Of course, the above is just a glimpse of what I have experienced, and might not be representative of the school in totality.

Have you checked out their open house this year ?
If your kid is not enrolling this year but next year, then perhaps you should check them out next year, nothing beats first hand experience, or at least, get a \"feel\" of it to see if the school fits your child. Don't just go to one open house, shortlist a few and go in with an open mind.

                  Hi Parents

Will need some advice from this group pls. We are SC and residing within 1km from NCPS and within 1 to 2km from Rivervale Primary. I am hoping to be able to get to Rivervale Pri as a PV.

                  a. Can i ask if anyone knows on the balloting history for applications within 1 to 2km from school for Phase 2B?
                  b. if the plan fails (if i am not enlisted for PV) then i am considering to go to NCPS for Phase 2C. I know its a risk but we really hope to have the chance to enroll our child to NCPS.

Besides Rivervale Pri, which school is better in terms of academic and character building - Sengkang Green / Compassvale Pri? I hope to try out as PV for either school if they accept as well. We are residing 1 to 2km away from both these schools.

                  Thanks

                    1) NCPS phase 2B need balloting. Rivervale no need.

                    2) you can try NCPS for phase 2C but competition is tough. Jus hv a plan C I.e. phase 2C supp school
                    3) Compassvale ballot for less than 1km. Normally PV chance low for more than 1km
