Boarding, kids write down their preferred room-mate (they’ll discuss amongst the classmates beforehand) & the teachers will review & assign. The rooms do come with a ceiling fan - but a portable fan improves the air circulation.

        Hello all,

My duaghter applied Art Elective Program (AEP) for JH1. AEP selection test will include "3 separate tasks involving 1 observational drawing, and 2 creativity-based tasks."

Is there anyone know what is "observational drawing" and "creativitu-based task"?

        Thanks in advance.

Mine went for selection test 3 years ago. They were asked to draw an object given to them, e.g., a shoe or a picture of butterfly (observational drawing?). They were also given a piece of paper with a bunch of circles and were asked to draw something out of it (creativity-based task?). Hope this helps! All the best to your daughter! The AEP programme is awesome (if your girl is really interested in art).

It will be good if your dd can have her ipad ready by 2nd week of sch (the week after orientation) as they will have instructions and a run through on what apps to load, how to access LMS and etc. Dont forget the math e book should also be loaded into the ipad so that they dont need to bring the physical math textbook.

My ds is using ipad which we find is light, btw they dont have many books to bring unlike pri sch. I find ipad mini is a tad too small given they have to do typing, editing, reading n etc, biggr screen maybe more convenient. DS clsmates are all using ipad instead of mini.

                  Hi

DD is selected for AEP. She has to attand AEP trial lessons for 4 weeks before signing contract with MOE for 4 years commitment. I believe she will enjoy the program. But I worry that she might be overstressed by additional workloads since she is taking 3rd language Japanese too. I appreciate to receive advices and tips from experienced parrents, how to minimize the workload, such as Dos and Don'ts in taking AEP and 3rd language.

                  Thanks in advance.

                    :congrats:
This \"attend AEP trial lessons for 4 weeks\" sounds new in NJC (but I heard NYGH started this trial-lesson thingy last year). What is the purpose of the 4-week trial lessons? For the students to decide if they like AEP enough to commit 4 years? Or for the school to decide if the students are suitable for the program, which means that the school can reject these students after 4 weeks? Or both?

Anyway, I can't comment much about taking both AEP and 3rd language, but what I heard is that the drop-out rate for 3rd language is very high (across the island). Not easy to learn a new language in the classroom context. You may want to check out the timetabling of AEP and 3rd language to see if there are clashes, especially come JH3 and 4. The workload from AEP is usually the amount and type of artwork that needs to be done (sometimes my gal had to stay back in school to complete them since some cannot bring home). 3rd lang requires time to complete assignments at home, which includes spelling, exercises, comprehension, and oral practices. I suppose one has to be very disciplined and passionate in both to be able to juggle them both.

Alternatively, maybe she can take both now and then drop 3rd lang later if she finds that she couldn't cope?

                      Thanks you.

It described that "The purpose of this trial period to let the student experience the rigour of the AEP lessons, and for the teachers to observe how the student is coping with the AEP work. At the end of the trial period, students will be presented with the form and they can make the decision to take up the commitment to the programme for the next 4 years. Should there be reason where the student/teacher feels that the student will not be able to cope with the programme, we will discuss further arrangements with the student and parents."

As you advised, I indent to let her take both and may trop 3rd language if she cannot cope later. Final desicision is to be done after trial lessons.

School informed us that AEP is on Tue and 3rd language is on Thu. We have not received official time table yet. For your DD in JH1 and JH2, AEP lessons were attended in normal lesson time or afternoon CCA time?

I remembered that there were two blocks of AEP lessons, one during normal lesson time in place of the GAP lessons that other students take, the other is after normal lesson time in the afternoon where they have to stay back for AEP lessons (something like 3-6pm).
