I am looking at either eunos primary or TKPS in phase 2cs. Both between 1 and 2km. Hopefully don't need to ballot.

TKPS is double session and lesson ends at 630pm. So late. Scared the DC will be tired. Since she wakes up at 6am daily.

TKPS +1. I apologise to anyone related to eunos primary that may find my post offensive.

I am guessing that you are at stretch between Paya lebar and eunos MRT stretch of SIMS avenue, so convenience both are the same?

Peer pressure is a big factor during formative years. We look at the type of typical bad students that can come in from the neighbouring area. TKPS will have the arrogant self entitled cocky foreign westernised Party animals types from different culture. But wild ideas from this future friend network in future may also be the next Microsoft or Apple. Gates and Jobs were hippies once...

Eunos Primary wise by being from an area with many rental units will have those that are from broken families, severe over crowding, parents with criminal and drug issues. U need a household income of less than 1.5k to qualify for rental units in first place. Those that get priority r those that have a husband locked up and wife and kids needed a roof over their heads typically. Else 1 parent has left and for the other it's in & out of prison and the kid is cared for by grandparents type. They somehow will bring their s**t into class and last thing u want when your kid is worrying over their friends problems, worse during PSLE year.

Another factor is Eunos primary location is it's location being beside the PIE. Noise level during class may be a factor though I can't confirm. Nearest bus stop is also 10-15 mins walk out carrying a school bag. If ur kid needs to take public transport, it's going to be very painful for them. Kid is going to stay back for CCAs and extra classes at some stage and there will be no schoolbus or both parents can't fetch scenario. TKPS wise has bus stop at Katong Shopping Centre. Quieter neighbourhood.

Lastly, consider the intake size. Eunos primary is 180 vs TKPS 240. More students means more funding from MOE and also more choices for CCAs.

How about between Opera Estate primary and Telok Kurau primary : which is better ?

(apart from Telok Kurau being LKY alma mater)

I never looked at those schools so can't analyse. I used to live near TKPS when young & staying within 2km of eunos primary now so had that field radar activated for them. Paiseh.

Mayflower Primary was in the news earlier this year as being the first mainstream school to welcome & integrate hearing-impaired into its community:
                  https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/education/children-with-hearing-loss-settling-into-primary-1-at-mayflower-primary-school

There’s an in-house student care, if u need:
                  http://mayflowerpri.moe.edu.sg/our-partners/student-care-centre

AMK Primary School, I didn’t see any sign of student care centre on their website. Here are their P1 slides. You can see plenty of details about their tests, spelling schedule etc. http://angmokiopri.moe.edu.sg/qql/slot/u387/MTP2018/Primary%201%20MTP%202018.pdf

I notice these P1 slides (and also the school-wide Principal’s Address slides) seem to place heavy emphasis on attendance at school. So many slides dedicated to “please be here. Come to school. Consequences of low attendance rate”. Even quoted Compulsory Education Act! A bit worrying if so many kids tend to be absent without MC...

(apart from Telok Kurau being LKY alma mater)[/quote]Because I got my first choice school, I never got to use my full bag of tricks. I just remembered my backup strategy
and thought it'd be good to share for benefit of those that are undecided at this stage, I hope this is going to be helpful for you all.

Take the day or afternoon off. Go to the bus stop and fast food restaurant
outside the shortlisted school during school dismissal. Check out the neighbouring library too. Keep a lookout specifically for P6 students. See their mannerisms... How are they behaving during this critical year? If they are studious then it's a good sign. If they are messing around, in BGRs or just not studying, then avoid. Remember how it was for us at that age? Peer pressure and group think is dominant dictator of how we will behave. U may think your kid is well behaved but there's always a chance they will fall into bad company. Just make an informed decision on minimising the chance.

Wish everyone the best of luck.

                    Cheers

                      Problematic kiddos: checked.

                      Foul language: checked.
                      BGR: checked.
We didn’t manage to get in the school of choice and likely to end up with above. Which was what we were trying to avoid. It was a hard pill to swallow but wow, when you end up with a dragon baby, I will need the luck and sanity…

Yeah totally feel you. Which is your school of choice? Did you put on waitlist?
