Big boss already said P3 and P5 SA1 will be removed; the schools’ hands are tied.

What the schools can do is to stop setting such tough papers in P5. Everybody knows they currently do that purposely to “shock” the kids and parents. Just stop doing it lah!

And if parents really want those checkpoints, the schools can set smaller, non-weighted topical tests. The mindset of all parties needs to change, to do regular topical revision, instead of waiting and procrastinating till the SA1 (30%) or SA2 (50%) to suddenly cram everything into the kid and regurgitate for the exam.

If I’m the one sitting for the papers, I know I’d rather have better-staggered tests of lower weightage (eg 10-20% of the whole year’s marks), or even no weightage (not taken into account for total mark). Diligent people will study for it, to make sure they know the material. If they fail those small tests, and the parents never noticed, I’m sure the teachers will point it out to the parents.

          PSLE 2019 fast approaching...

My DS has improved in Maths and Science under his tutor. He doesnt attend tuition for languages. His languages not great but have yet found the time or tutor or motivation to reschedule stuff around I guess. Tried to get him to self study English but there's always never seems to be enough time. Is the current grades they getting at SA2 an indication of PSLE results? there should still be room for improvements right?
One of the reasons why kids, especually boys, show fast improvement is because
they need methods or techniques. ..

Take for example, synthesis and Transfromation, it is seriously NOT out there, if you stick to a few cold and hard rules.
also, if your DS hasn't already realised,, there are certain shortcutsand spotted qns that he should have at his finger tips. P5 is when S &T strikes hard, with 2 marks per qn., compared to P4.

Think about it, 5 qns. 10 marks in total. EXPENSIVE, YEA. Lol.

As with S & T, every other component has its fair share of techniques and shortcuts.

Thats what I believe in :imcool:

Feel free to pm as I dont wanna get longwinded here hahahah

parents in 2018 PSLE thread said their Maths & Science are easy papers, means our 2019 batch, going to be easy too ? What you all think ?

              2 possibility
either same as 2018, also going to be easy as well, since MOE want to de-emphasize academic stress, like removing (P1, P2 exam / P3, P5 SA1)

              OR

SEAB reserve the setting of challenging questions, for our piggies ?

curtain came down for 2018 batch, as today is their last paper (Higher Chinese). They will be collecting PSLE results slip tentatively around Friday, 23 November 2018.

So, curtain has rolled up. They have passed their PSLE baton, over to us.
Hope piggy soldiers (warriors) going to encounter easy papers, when they fight battle next 2019 September, since MOE been de-emphasizing academic stress, by removing mid-year exam for odd-level (in Primary & Secondary schools)

Personally I felt last year papers are easy. That is why my and my kids braced ourselves for tough papers this year. Also looking at this year top school P6 SA1 and SA2, was also surprised it is easy as well. So my thought is maybe SEAB is moving away from setting too difficult paper but throw in 1 or 2 difficult Qs to differentiate the A and A*. That is my opinion only.
