Considering that from next year onwards the P1 and P2 have no more graded exams, there won’t be much impact to their academic learning if transferring here & there in those 2 years...
That makes the case even more interesting. No more exams, so how to evaluate students' progress? Or is there no need to evaluate their progress? So why do PSLE? Please. I'm not sure about the details but the implementation of the new exam format needs careful analysis and review for a number of years before we can comment on it. -

Thanks so much Zac's mum. Considering my backup plan. Stress liao.jeu:
Hi , may I know for children going into St Gabriel's & Cedar Primary in 2019, did those in 2C have to ballot? What about 2C(S)? Did anyone in 2C(S) get to go in? Anyone know the stats? Considering between St Gab and Cedar Primary. Thanks!
Refer to page 348 of this thread here for St Gabriel’s balloting stats for 2C, kindly provided by forummer vivi_vivi:

Updated: Cedar had 83 seats left at phase 2C(S). ALL applicants at all distances for 2C(S) got in safely. [Cedar had increased its intake to cater to Dragon year. It certainly has the capacity to maintain or increase further if demand from Bidadari residents spikes.] -

What I heard from my teacher relative is that there will still be mini tests or holistic assessments (depending what they want to call it) throughout the year with or without the parent's knowledge.zac's mum:

That is what’s happening in my son’s school. It’s how they “ensure” the kids do regular revision and the marks are for internal reference only. Parents will get to see the test papers when they are returned for signature. But there’s no impact or consequences of the marks.ChiefKiasu:

Those parents who worry that they won’t know how their child is doing along the way...unless they are super blind or blur while signing the test papers...I don’t see how they can miss the progress (or any <50% warning signs). -

I am waiting for a transfer from a SAP school-far away to a not so fantastic neighbourhood sch-nearby. What do u all think? Yes it depends on \"when\" the neighhourhood sch calls up. At this point seems like nobody in the right mind will withdraw else it will be like a \"musical chair\" syndrome everywhere.
supposing the waitlisted school has affiliation, I feel it is worth to transfer when there is a vacancy.ChiefKiasu:
I agree that there is no hard and fast rule for waitlisted schools to provide any good news before that start of Term 1. It is interesting to ask if people are interested in the waitlisted schools after their kids have already started in their assigned schools and I suspect that the answer depends on \"how long\" before that waitlisted school calls. If its within a month, I think most parents will go for their desired school, but once its into the regular term I think most parents would rather stay in the assigned school. I may be wrong, but that would be how I feel. -
ChiefKiasu:
Problem forsee (one can predict) is that : since no more SA1 in school, parents worried - so send kids to tuition centre, ask tuition centre to set SA1 papers

If the not so fantastic neighborhood school is full, ie requires balloting at Phase 2C, it’s very unlikely that a vacancy will open up right now.

It’s a matter of re-training them to do the tests responsibly, whether or not marks are counted.
It’s going to be the same in their future workplace. Whether or not the employer is going to be watching over them with CCTV or not, are they going to do their work seriously or take the lazy way out?
I see the work ethic of some millennial interns and trainees these days... :stupid:  -
Is a great relief from current system, because some parents in some schools now very, very sian (eg. St Anthony Canossian primary): come every Term (CA1 / SA2 / CA2 / SA2), also got certain weightage recorded into Report card. Perpetually on their toes, all year round. NO time to breathe.
Eg
A few months ago, i asked my friend is she going for a short holiday break ? She asked me, "How to go ? Got CA2 coming, u know … very sian. Every Term, get stressed "
With new changes, bagus, relief !
Because is ok to be stressed once a year (at SA2), than to be stressed every Term, 4x per year. -

Do u think because parents worry now since no more SA1 in school, so they send their kids to tuition centre, request tuition centre to set SA1, for kids ?zac's mum:
