taking Lit at least to O level gives the person greater breadth and is important developmentally.

            Totally!

Aptitude/Performance aside, I'd like to add that Literature is actually a \"lighter\" subject compared to Geography and History.
You only need to read one book for both Secondary 3 and 4 if you choose it as part of Combined Humanities; and 2 if you do it as a Pure subject. Of course there is the unseen poem element, but no textbooks or content-heavy notes to memorise.

but need flair n good writing skills to score...? if have interest but not as strong in writing then might not score as well..

I think you need good writing skills to score in any humanities subject.
One misconception people have with regards to Literature writing is that it has to be full of style and flair. With academic writing, you are supposed to express and present your arguments in a clear, concise and well-structured manner. Literature is of no difference. You don't need fanciful ramblings and bombastic words. Appropriate language use is the key. Impress with your clear arguments, with detailed elaboration and solid evidence from the text, and then link it back to the essay question. Basically adopting your PEEL format. You'd be able to score well if you do that.
Having an interest is already half the battle won, and writing skills can be honed.
I understand the pressure of needing A1s to get to the next level, but it's really a shame if Literature is sacrificed. It is the only academic subject (at least up to our A Levels) that heightens our sensitivity and empathy, and makes us understand what it means to be human.
