Dd told me that during the briefing, cher told them that this program is something like what they did in the IDS last year, interviewing people and they will be going to Tiong Bahru for the learning journey too. Actually was telling my dd not to apply any extra program, so as to keep her work load manageable; but since she was being selected & letter was issued, I think it may be a good exposure for her to learn how to manage her work this year. :xedfingers:
I always feel if she is been selected then should go for it. Will add credit to her profile.

Yesh...that's what I think too. ^-^ -
DD (sec 1) has been selected for MO training but she can’t make it on Mon (3rd Lang class) as well as Tue (day for the CCA she has chosen).
Her teacher’s advice is, give up MO training, but my daughter is keen to go. Usually what is the best way to go about this? Can appeal for a change of CCA to those that are held on Friday? -

What cca she's in? Only once a week? So good....^-^ If her cca can be on Friday, you can try to appeal. Maybe her teacher think that it is not a must for MO training in Sec 1, hence such advice bah. Becoz in Sec 2, your dd may still get the chance to being selected for the SIA talent program in Math. The school usually encourage students to take up such program in Sec 2 even though it is only compulsory in Sec 3.DD (sec 1) has been selected for MO training but she can’t make it on Mon (3rd Lang class) as well as Tue (day for the CCA she has chosen).

I think it is a bit sayang to give up the MO training since she is keen to go, sorry I am always very 纠结 :oops:DD (sec 1) has been selected for MO training but she can’t make it on Mon (3rd Lang class) as well as Tue (day for the CCA she has chosen).

HeeHee... My girl is the rest and relaxed kind :imcool: she purposely chose clubs CCA.

During primary school days, she was from the library club.
The allocation of CCA is not out yet but 4 out of 5 CCAs she picked would require participation on Tuesday. Her teacher told her since she can’t make it on either day, then no choice but to give up. Her classmate’s CCA fell on Tues too (as she DSAed via that particular CCA), thus, classmate has no choice but to reject too.

Song22:
Ya, she herself is keen to go. I asked her to “let go” after heeding my friend’s advice. Selected for training doesn’t mean will win in competition as MO prizes are usually swept up by the boys. Girl just stare at me for a long time, :skeptical: I guess she understood what I mean...

Regarding change of CCA - not sure whether there is any change in policy now but back then dd’s classmate appealed after the CCA was allocated and was successful in her appeal.

CCA used to start pretty late in term 1 for the sec 1 too, somewhere near week 9?
The girls were expected to remain in the same CCA for the year though. (There were some who managed to change their CCA at the beginning of sec 2) -
lego:
Thank you lego! It is assuring to know that school allows appeal of allocated CCA and that the girl was successful in her appeal. Another funny thing is that her maths teacher damn ganjiong, wants an answer from her by tomorrow whether she wants to accept or reject but CCA allocation results are not out yet so don’t even have to talk about appeal.

What is SIA? :scratchhead:
SiA - Student Initiated Assignment. Examples of SIAs are Innovation Program (IvP), Maths Research Programme (MRP),Odyssey of the Mind (OM), Humanities Talent Development Programme (HTDP), World Scholar's Cup (WSC).
In Sec 2, some students will be identified & selected for IvP, MRP, & HTDP based on their Sec 1's strong subject, MSG & teacher's recommendation. I am not sure OM & WSC fall under what subject, but heard this 2 programs are like through student's application, and undergo selection trials.
In Sec 3, SIA is compulsory and all students have to be in 1 SIA as part of the graded component (but not counted in MSG).
