There are schools with a little less or a little more than 30 kids, especially if the schools have insufficient applicants. The difference here is that these schools are planning to start with an odd number in mind.

Eg PHPPS used to have 300 places, then reduced to 270, which I assume would be 9 classes of 30 kids. This year, it will only have 224. One, it’s a huge reduction. Two, it seems like they are planning for 8 classes of 28 kids only. If they are choosing by class count, it would be 240 (8 classes). However, it looks like they are doing both - by class and by size per class. Are they running out of tables and chairs like zac’s mum says?!

I think St Margaret’s already had a weird odd total number last year. Not sure what happened there.

I was looking at the numbers for Punggol schools. It seems like some of them are planning for 25 per class, others 28 and the rest 30, when in previous year, they are running 30 per class (in multiples of 30). Could it be MOE way to move the applicants / students around by tweaking the supply side given the slightly lower of expected applicants this year (compared to last and next year)?

I think it’s fine if their planning for better ratios. But not if the popular schools are squeezing more kids in and overloading their teachers.


Eg I hope Pei Hwa’s 224 seats is 8 classes of 28 kids, rather than 7 classes of 32 kids!

Btw Pei Hwa is moving from dual session to single session. Therefore the drastic reduction in numbers.

I can understand the rational of reducing intake to make space for single session. I would think it’s easier to just take away a class or two. Whether it’s 8 classes of 28, or 7 classes of 32, it just doesn’t feel right.

I think it’s fine to improve the student:teacher ratios. Especially if the P1-P2 are starting to be assessed based on their qualitative group interaction skills & other behavioral factors in their holistic assessment report. How do u expect a teacher to observe all these soft skills properly in 30-32 kids at one go??

Versus the old traditional exam marks (as seen from what the kids write on paper).

My younger daughter is going to west spring moe k1 next year. My elder son is registering at 2C and singaporean. Our house is over 2km from west spring primary school.
I called West Spring School to request how to put my son on waiting list so that both of them can go to the same school. The person in charge told me to put interest at registration phase 2C though knowing the chance is 0 because of the distance. Then once the result is out, go to the school to put on waiting list as this will increase the chances of being accepted. This also mean that we give up chance to register other school eg. St Antony, Concord, Chua Chu Kang primary during phase 2C and left with Teck Whye primary in phase 2CS.

Can you please advice? Thank you.

Unfortunately, what the other person is true. Priority on waitlist are usually given to those who had balloted out first.

That said, you may want to observe the number of applicants first. If ballot occurs within 1km, I would suggest that you apply in another school instead. Reason being even on a waitlist, those who are within 1km and are balloted out will still be on a higher priority than you.

May i know what is the procedure after the P1 Registration successful ? like when go to buy school uniform ? buy books ? meeting teacher on the guide or registrate the student care and etc ?

Do parents’ nationality affect the child’s chances of getting into the school during Phase 2C? We are PR, the child is a Singaporean and we live within 1km from the school.
