Which brings me to question, what purpose does it serve actually, publishing this total number without breakdown?? Siao! Like, it doesn’t help anybody.

Actually looking at the website and the historical trend, can roughly tell already.

But if it is avaiable everyone can make an informed decision on whether to stay or withdraw and go for a school they have a shot at getting in. realistically what chance you have vs their wishful thinking to get in to a certain school. All these parents asking other fellow parents and nail biting and going from one school to another on last day can be greatly reduced. Easy for the schools too. They will get the number of applicants who actually wanna be there despite balloting, rain or shine 🙂 no need to answer so many calls and inquiries heh he.
That's my view
That's my view too.
Now a lot of parents got headache at the very beginning state.
Should breakdown in terms of residential status and home-school distance category.
And MOE updates is not real-time, that's so bad.
Should be real-time with a few minute delay for their IT back-end system data fetching instead of updating at the end of the day. Really no point at all.
MOE should be looking for better solution for registration.
If not coming year more and more parents headache doing PV or sleepless for balloting .

No.

RGPS ballot for SC > 2km is nothing special. If anything, it has the potential to ballot for SC between 1-2km. Chances are most 1-2km are just getting smarter to identify an opening at this particular school.

HWS is just par for the course. Given that there are plenty of places available at Stamford and Bendemeer, I don't see why people would be put-off by the balloting in HWS.

because stamford and bendeemer are really quite far off as compared to HWS if you are staying at Balastier-Whampoa / Boon Keng. Most likely the former 2 schools are the backup 2CS schools.

Far but not if you are staying on the other side of the expressway, over at McNair, Little India or Boon Keng. 1km is a radius.

Those staying at Whampoa are basically a captive audience. You have no real alternatives and no where to run to. Your only option is to ballot at HWS.

Thus, when you have one group with no where else to go, and another group who is happy to join in because their alternative is the same place they would have gone anyway if they have lost the ballot, you end up in this situation.
So the advice for us is don’t buy a house in Whampoa? (In prevention of needing to ballot?)

You are buying a house for a chance at balloting (same for all other popular schools), what’s the point?

There are various reasons why people buy a house and each property comes with pros and cons.

Going the way it has been this year, there will be one more tier of update to indicate at which distance will the balloting be conducted.

I think everyone is waiting for 2C balloting status, meaning which category will require balloting. Understand that results will be out in 7 August.

If your concern is whether your child has been registered at phase 2C depending on your profile i.e. SC or PR as well as distance of home from school, you might want to call the school to check, they should be able to give you a sense of which category your child is in even before the results are announced next Wednesday. However here's the caveat - should your child belong to the category which requires balloting then you will have an agonising wait till 7 Aug.

Every morning I will see students wearing bendemeer primary school uniform crossing the bridge and walking past HWS to their school. It will be a sad thing for them. The government even closed the balastier primary school last year.

Y sad thing? Some parents who failed to get a place in HWS shared that they are actually happy with bendemeer ps though.
It is a quite a long walk from HWS to BPS. If can get school downstairs why want to wake up early and walk so far. The traffic at Towner road is quite bad during the morning school time.
