1) step 1
Dear parents,
What is the criteria to get admission via DSA sports or performing arts, besides the skills? Must students at least meet certain aggregate scores in their P5 & P6 school exams? I am curious how the school decide to issue CO or WL to students who are similar in their academics and CCA, given the quota in issuing CO?
Thank you so much in advance! :thankyou:
The past Academic results in your primary school, plus the list of awards you have listed down , one by one, plus whatever supportive comments u had written down, during online submission portal time, will only lead you as far as, to the ... \"short-listed\" Phase stage, of DSA several stages-in-progress.
2) step 2
Once gone past the \"short-listed\" stage, it is the combination of factors at work (play)
The selection (entrance subject) tests, plus the face-to-face interview that short-listed DSA applicants went through, that will determine (seal) their fate, whether candidate get outright rejection / Wait-list / CO
The face-to-face interview, with the panel of interviewers (including external professional hired staff present, unique to that domain. Eg. famous Dance Teacher, hired), is the most critical stage.
The panel of interviewers are sensitive, they stay alert to how (the way) you reply to questions, posed to them.
If the \"chemistry\" generated (created) during interview is good (great) between applicant and interviewers, ie. the interviewers like you very much, they think (feel) that you are a good fit to the school, they will offer CO.
If they feel that u are good, but still, there are far better or stronger, more powerful candidates (opponents) in the midst, more suitable candidates than u, for that same domain which u applied for, and also whom they prefer more as their first choice, after interviewing so many candidates after a few round, then they offer u Wait-list
Or
If they feel that u are indeed very good, a very strong & powerful candidate, but somehow probably sense that unlikely to choose this school as 1st choice, in other words, this school isn't your #1 Top choice, then they can also give u a \"Wait-list\", not a CO, because somewhere, they sense that u are half-hearted
But, if u said something wrong, off-tangent during interview,
or
they feel that your heart beat (passion) is actually somewhere else through the way u answered (replied),
eg. they feel that actually it is your mom who get (requested) u to apply to this school, not you yourself truly want (desire) it,
This happened, before.
All the while, the interview was going smoothly, no hiccup. Candidate almost on the verge of getting a CO. But this last question posed, toppled situation. Interviewer sensed that, mother is the one that asked the child to apply, child no interests in dancing, although highly qualified, possess a lot of certificate in dancing
or
they don't think u are the right fit to the school,
or
maybe IP doesn't quite suit u after all, long term wise u are actually better off studying in an OP school , then verdict is : rejection -
Hi annieapple
From what I heard, Dunman has no lowest score expectations for sports dsa. Cannot fail lah.
Most important is to be a past medal winner and also top its selection trials for sports. Performing arts I dunno. -
Hi,
Hope some senior parents can help with my questions…
How likely is a bilingual WL conversion to CO for DHS?
How many bilingual DSA students does DHS usually take in?
Are 1I & 1J the SBGE classes? Someone mentioned 1I is for bilingual DSA or those who did well in chinese. And 1I does STEM as well on top of bilingual talent programme / bicultural programme? -

Whether it’s a bilingual WL, a sports WL, an academic WL, a WL WL, the answer to the question of likelihood of conversion is always the same: no one knows since (1) no one knows how many WL are being given out by the school and (2) there are a number of considerations involved before a WL is converted into CO.

Looking for tuition for next yr Sec 2. Thanks. -

Not sure about tuition centre... but both my ds and dd told me that there is this assessment book called IP Mathematics or something written by a former NYGH teacher is quite useful for them when they prepare for the exam. You can find it in Popular Bookshop.

My son is now in Year 4 and did pretty well for both his Maths. His is being tutored by Ms Ong who was the former Head of Maths Department, Hwa Chong Institution. You may call her at 9669 0156.
His Math grades were below average during Year 1 & 2. His recent Year 4 EOY results for both his Maths are A+.
