Those born in and after 2008 are impacted by the new Chinese Syllabus. Be careful if you are buying 2nd hand books from Carousell. Those born in 2009, you can buy from 2008 batch but 2008 children, they are the first batch taking new syllabus Chinese. I found Popular bookstores are still selling phased out assessment books which should have been recalled. Please check "printed date" before buying. Normally the new chinese assessment books will only be available in end Jan/ Feb next year.

Format wise, 2017 onwards is of relevance.

Regarding change of syllabus, the main sections affected are the first 2 sections, i.e. 语文应用MCQ and 短文填空 Cloze Passage. Thus, these 2 sections can be \"skipped\". However, Q9, 10, 11 and 12 are actually not directly affected by syllabus text, since they are testing on 连接词 (conjunctions) and 完成句子. So, they can still be used for practice.

For both CL & HCL, isn’t both just changed New Syllabus in 2017? Shld still be relevant since just 2 years ago syllabus changed. Don’t think MOE change syllabus again, so shld still able to use those materials do long as 2017 onwards?

2017 was change in exam format , whereas change in syllabus was progressively:
2015 - Pri 1
2016 - Pri 2
2017 - Pri 3
2018 - Pri 4
2019 - Pri 5 (thus 2019's Pri 5 used different Pri 5 text books compared to 2019's Pri 6)
2020 - Pri 6 (2020's Pri 6 will be first batch using the new syllabus' Pri 6 text books)

I heard the new syllabus textbooks have many more must-know vocab words than the old syllabus. Is that the main difference?

Yes, HCL can use 2017-2019 schools past year HCL exam paper for compre practice (first 2 sections are related to syllabus text so can skip).

I have a qn. My son was asked to take 2 foundation subjects i.e. Chinese and Math and 2 standard subjects being Eng and Sci. Should I now request for MT exemption or is it too late in order for him to have more time and work hard for the 3 other subjects ? He is diagnosed with ADHD and has a doctor letter to allow him for extra time since P4.

Its not too late to ask for exemption. But they are pretty strict about approval nowadays. All the best!
