Agreed, a lot of valuable insight here. Thank you so much!
This year's thread has lots of helpful information for future applicants. Only have to read through many pages
All the best to your DS for a happy outcome, kibblesmoke. (Possibly one of only a few) Last man standing

Hi Desmond,
From your earlier post info, has your DS accepted Biomedical Sciences and BioBusiness in NTU while still in waitlist from NTU Medicine?
I got info from my DD few years back, she applied NUS medicine and went through interview, after long waiting, she was finally offered the Second choice course other than Medicine, it imply she was no longer in NUS Medicine waitlist.Hi,
I have a query quite similar to that of Seya also.
For my DD's case. After being put on waitlist by LKCMedicine, she went on to accept SMU's Double Degree in Accountancy & Business under LKCSP (ie. her 1st choice course in SMU) instead of NTU's Double Degree in Accountancy & Business (ie. her 2nd choice course in NTU after LKCMedicine) and NUS's BBA (Acc) programme (ie. her 2nd choice course in NUS after YLLMedicine).
In fact, she preferred NTU's Double Degree in Accountancy & Business to SMU’s version but decided to go for the latter due to the LKCSP scholarship offered by SMU.
Fortunately, after few weeks of wait she finally gotten her LKCMedicine waitlist conversion notice. We are all very happy with the outcome. But in retrospect, we cannot help to wonder if the outcome would be the same if my DD were to accept NTU's Double Degree in Accountancy & Business instead of SMU’s version.
We had discussed and reviewed this entire situation with some people and a few of them came out with this “hypothesis”:
Assuming all admission offices have full access to the joint admission portal and have clear picture of the list of courses offered to the students by fellow local universities and also the courses the students have already accepted, an admission office of a University will have less “urge” to “poach” a student who has already accepted an offer from another faculty of her own University. That being said, there is a likelihood and does make logical sense that they would rather “steal” talents from other competing Universities. Assuming the above hypothesis is true, could this be one contributing factor that favoured my DD’s bid? -

Desmond,
Hi! Seya,
Yes, my son was offered to study Sciences at NUS after the unsuccessful NUS YLLSoM MMI. For NTU LKCSoM, he was waitlisted while being offered a scholarship to study Biomedical Sciences after an MMI interviews by NTU SBS just few days after the Medicine MMI interviews.
He took out NTU SBS (4 years) as the subjects are comprehensive and also it has an additional option for him to study medicine at Duke-NUS (2 years) if he is interested after getting his Science Degree.
So is his entry to Duke-NUS medicine a guaranteed pathway after the 4 years Biomedical science degree? Or will there be further selection after the 4 years? If it is a guaranteed pathway, it is fine.... only need to stay one extra year compared to NUS YLL or NTU LKC. He will get 2 degrees instead of one. And the biomedical science will give him solid foundation into basic science....
I understand that DUKE-NUS only accept Post-graduate students. They do not admit students directly without a degree.
NTU-Duke-NUS Pre-MD Pathway is a collaboration of both Schools, but each of them take charge of their programmes independently.
Students from NTU SBS can expect to stay engaged with Duke-NUS through periodic meetings with Duke-NUS faculty on campus and invitations to activities designed to provide insights into the medical school experience and a career in medicine. A general overview of the coursework requirements and mentorship and enrichment activities. Duke-NUS will access the students performances each year with NTU SBS till they graduate. They will still sit for all the required entrance tests prior acceptance by Duke-NUS. As you can see the processes are demanding and only the brightest will be offered. Most of them will be graduated with an MD in their respective research fields in Science and Medicine. It will take NTU SBS (4 yrs) + Duke-NUS (4 yrs) = 8 years to complete the programmes. So they will obtain a Double Major (Hons) from NTU-SBS and then an MD from Duke-NUS. The programmes from both Schools are very tough and demanding.
Desmond,
Thanks for the explanation. So it is 8 years instead of 5 years. -
Desmond,
Is there a bond and if there is, how long is the bond with MOHH? -
Hi Kiwi3
Do you have to pay any administrative penalty from pulling out of the SMU scholarship? -

There are many contributimg factors in play. Medicine is a very popular course and the places for each intake is so tight for the two Schools respectively. I believed it was your DD's good academics inclination and abilities that got her the offer from NTU LKCSoM wait-lists. Don't think your DD's offer was based on \"pouching.\"
All the universities here have promoted their Schools so attractively and hope to woo students prior to acceptance for the School of their choice to join them. For those exceptionally good students, they will dangle some carrots to entice them over to their School. It is all up to all these students to decide as they were spoilt for choice. I believe that they were not \"pouched\" but had based on their performances. -

Yes, similar to MBBS. A 4 years bond under MOH guideline.

Thank you for your objective and comprehensive info and insights.
You have been very supportive to this group feeding us fellow “Kiasu” (or some said, “Gan Cheong”) parents with lots of encouragement, moral support and useful info to pull us through the long and difficult waiting process.
Good things happen to good people. Wishing u and family good health and your son all the best in his promising future to come.
