ll attempts to meet up was foiled as his mother had many restrictions...so where is the fairness and the boy's selfish mother who wanted his name to be put on a project which he did not contribute.

      I can empathize with you.

My son has his fair share of bad experiences with irresponsible and selfish team mates. Often, my son ends up completing other members' tasks. In one case, the leader of the team even took my son's prepared script and make it his own. My son was then made to write on another aspect of the theme.

our kids in schools are already facing such issues...so, it's not surprising people in the working world will take other people's work and claim credit.
how can children have ethics if their parents do not see that as important

School is a microcosm of a society. There are all kinds of people in the society, some are selfish. There are all kinds of parents and the selfish ones will pass on the wrong values to their children.

As parents ourselves, we can only do our part to impart the right values and provide guidance to our children to help them cope with such situation. In the example given by Monica Lim, I wonder what should Student C do? or how should her parents advise her in that situation?

I really don’t know how much parents can do…given that our children have to face all kinds of people when they are in school. If they have selfish friends, the only thing to do is avoid if possible…like I told my son if he has to partner this boy again for any project, ask the teacher if he can have a change…explain if necessary.

If I could turn back the clock, I probably would focus more on teaching good character and good decision making skills for my two kids. It's not too late now though if I had started earlier in their lives, they probably have internalised them by now. (one is 13 the other 9). Being an ex-school teacher, I put quite a bit of emphasis on academic. They are doing well in school but their EQ and MQ (moral quotient) are not as good as I would prefer. EQ and MQ are truly very important. So I have recently gotten hold of a licence to do a wonderful program for kids. You may like to read about it at http://www.gurukidspro.com/services under Course 4 BrainWise program (though not as complete yet) as well as at http://brainwise-plc.org/. If you would like to purchase its curriculum, you may do so through me to get a discount. I am looking at introducing to schools to incorporate into their curriculum so that our kids will grow up learning how to make GOOD decisions. I am also looking for trainers who would like to learn to conduct the course which I have adapted to our local culture.

            Cheers,
            😄

I saw from Wanbao Facebook page. My heart goes to the family and school..to you too sun_2010 and your child.

During this PSLE preparation and DSA result time, parents, please really consider the school your child will enter. Would DC be able to handle the stress? Top school may not be the best school for your child...

Yes it is a case of suicide of a student . I believe it is in the Chinese website. Mostly likely linked with my child’s school.

I don’t think it’s related to school stress. hope the school handles it right. The students are talking, and trying to sort out their feelings. Specially classmates and friends who might be groping with some misplaced guilt, thinking if they could have helped him. They need to talk , lots of mentoring / counselling would help them deal with it.

                        Sigh!
