It is possible. If you want to transfer to another school, whether from express to express, or from express to IP, around end Sep, you need to call up the school you are interested in and register your interest with them. Your child will then be asked to take the school's internal exam around mid to end October. The school will then inform you whether your child has been successful.

Thanks Swc, in this case, to transfer in secondary schools, it is not based on own school's exam results. There is a need to go to the desired school and take their tests.

thanks for this information. it is helpful as no idea this is how it works.

Express to express, most of the time, it is based in your school exam results, there will be no internal school exam. It is like transferring pri sch.
Hello MerlioninGermany

Thanks for the info. In this case, would it be first come first serve (base on how early you register or higher rank in the waitlist?), or based on your sec 1 results at existing school?

Thanks again.

think this is a perennial dilemma to choose between HCI vs RI. My son's score is 267+3. think he prefers HCI, mainly cos his dad is an alumnus. but personally i prefer RI due to its proximity to our home and the later starting time in the morning (745 instead of 720 of HCI , which is a good half an hour more sleep everyday). i am also impressed by RI e open house last sat, whereby the students are mixed up in different classes be it DSA or GEP kids. whereas in HCI, i think the GEP will remain in GEP classes - correct me if i am wrong.
and this morning, we did our trial to HCI by using public transport. its abt 30-40 min from our place.

well we still havent' decided which one to put as first option. open for any suggestions and comments. Eventually I think I will let the boy decide for himself. 😄
Sharing my local Singaporean friend’s son’s experience. A very high achiever from GEP steam- he chose HCI and not RI. Personally he preferred a “Chinese-cultured” environment and felt RI will be too “ang mo” and not a good fit for him. Excelling in HCI and made the right choice as parents left him to make the decision for his choices. Reason is simple. The child is the one to study in the school, so let the child make the final decision and not worry for the child.

I see a lot of people advising to let the child decide .
My child has no preference , even after looking at the website and the courses/CCA offered . We don’t know what the school culture is like , only what we hear and that is so different depending on who we hear from

Thanks again.
it is not first come first served, surely the school will pick someone with good sec 1 results, when they are looking to fill a vacancy in sec 2 of the following year.

Hi all,

Would like to ask your opinions. My DS scores 270 and RI is his dream school. However, we are residing in Jurong and are concern with the travelling time. SAP schools are not possible as he doesn’t take Chinese. And there is a lack of good schools near us. Would you consider RI if you’re in our position? Thank you.

Hi everyone! My friend's boy got 228, can you share your advice on his choice of Sec schools, please? He is staying at Queenstown. Many thanks~
How about considering Gan Eng Seng Sec Sch - 227 cut off point or Queensway Sec Sch - 222?

Go for it! My eldest is in RI and we are staying in the Far East 😂 but my DS loves the school so much. He travels about 1 hr plus to and from school each way, but he does it willingly. Contrary to myths about elitism and selfishness, I find RI students to be very supportive and helpful. My DS friends will share notes, help one another and even go in groups to consult the Teachers when in doubt. The parents support group is excellent too! Parents share information readily too. There’s a big batch chat with more than 250 parents inside.

DS is very glad that he chose RI. Teachers are very dedicated and they treat the students as young adults. No regrets choosing this school for us.

Good luck to you!
