Hi, my DD's score is 257 (no hcl) and I live in Bishan.

I am planning to put the following schools ranked in order of preference (hence it's a bit strange order for choice 5):
Choice 1: RGS (her dream school although COP is 261)
Choice 2: NYGH (COP: 261)
Choice 3: St Nic IP (COP: 257)
Choice 4: Cedar Girls IP (COP: 253)
Choice 5: Dunman High / NJC (COP: 255 / 254)
Choice 6: SCGS IP (COP: 252)

Are choice 4 and 6 fairly safe with COP +4 and +5?
Or should I move SCGS up to put in say Cedar Girls OL (COP: 249) as Choice 6 to provide for more \"safety net\" in case of freak COP?
I have been reading this thread and many seems to expect COP this year to go up..
Also, I read a few comments that one should build buffer of 8-10 COP buffer which seems like a lot to me... so not sure if it's really necessary..
Thanks very much for your kind advice as DD is my first child and I am quite clueless.
Thanks!!

The computer will look through the 6 options on your daughter's list, and post her to the first school it finds with a vacancy. For this reason, she must arrange the schools in order of preference (which may not necessarily be in order of COP).

COP +5 is probably safe, but if there is really a freak movement, who knows? It really depends on your risk appetite. No-one can assure you that the COP for any school will definitely not go up by more than 5 in any year (unlikely, but anything is possible). Out of the 6 choices, I would spare 1 which is really, really safe.

Really really safe means buffer 8-10?
Since most your choice are girls school, what if you scrap Dunman/NJC (their COP are higher than Cedar IP anyway), move SCGS IP to no.5 and no.6 Cedar O level for safety net.
Most likely you will get St Nick IP where HCL is compulsory.

Can someone advise some differences between Chung Cheng High Main and Nan Chiau? Distance wise both ok although NC is nearer. I live near Kovan.
when selecting school for my kids, I been to both CCHM and NC open house . And my kids enrolled CCHM. Facilities wise, CCHM is way better: bigger, more serene (bless with a nature lake), strong resource support by alumni/ school committee. CCHM is also affiliated to NYJC- 2 bonus point deduction for L1R5. I don’t know about NC, but on top of academics, CCHM emphasise olot on character building. To built resilience into their students. And also all round development for the students. Every 2 years there is a Chung Cheng art festival. Student get to perform at Eplsanade. They even have an art galary in the school. You can search for “When the bell rings” series on YouTube. It has an episode each on both these SAP school. U can understand more on each of these 2 schools

I think so, or at least 6-8 - it's unheard of for COP to change that much in 1 year. At least, I don't think it has before. Since COP is determined by demand and supply, plus other factors that determine size of student intake, it's not easy to predict.

Hi, I am deciding the sequence of choice

- catholic high O level - 1 point below cop

- nanhua - 2 points above cop

Travelling distance about the same, both are SAP.

Anyone can share ur view?
Take Catholic High (O-level) better, because
at end of Sec 2 year-end streaming, you still have a second chance to go IP, if u desire.

if your son does well at end of Sec 2 and son is keen in IP, Principal will invite your son to do IP starting Sec 3 IP to join Eunoia JC

This EJC has improved rapidly so fast !

Years ago, when EJC first started off and occupied Mount Sinai temporary premises, not many students want to join IP (CHS / SCGS / St Nick) back then, because many students said \"brand new JC, no track record ...\"

But today Y2020, look what happen ?

Eunoia JC admission intake -
Is the same for Science & Arts, as the other two : Victoria JC and National JC

In other words,
As far as L1R5 is concerned,

Eunoia Junior College is on par, with Victoria Junior College & National Junior College, for A-level admission, both (Science & Arts) stream

EJC has done exceedingly well, to come thus far !

Cut off point (L1R5) for

a)

Eunoia JC (Science ) = Victoria JC (Science) = National JC (Science), all at 7 points

b)

EJC (Arts) = VJC (Arts) = NJC (Arts), all at 8 points

In other words, 2 years later, at end of Sec 2 streaming, if u do well and decide to go straight up to A-level, bypass take O level National exam, u still have the last chance to do so.

Anyway, 7 points (Science stream), not easy to get, at O-level. So might as well grab the chance and go , if by then Principal give you the chance to go IP, at end of Sec 2

If you choose Nan Hua,
if u want this type of opportunity at end of Sec 2, also don't have

Hi Sunny,

You can give a call yourself to Catholic High (VP Academic), find out yearly, roughly, how many students transfer from O level into IP track ?

and

roughly what kind of criteria required? Do this inquiry only if your son is keen in IP.

Otherwise,
if not keen in end of Sec 2 migrate over to IP, don’t make any inquiry. Just rope your son’s opinion whether he prefer CHS or study Nan Hua himself. The student himself must also take ownership & responsibility, over which Secondary school he himself prefer to study in

My DD’s T-score is 248 + 1 ( HCL). She scored 4As but not offered HCL. I’m wondering why?

Because she did not fall into Top 10 % Psle cohort

And also
either her Standard Chinese did not acquire an A star

Or she did not score minimum a merit for her psle higher chinese

This year,
Top 10 % cut off was at 252.
At 248, she is 4 points away from Top 10 % cut off cohort (252). So, she is Not within Top 10 %

Refer to MOE website
Moe spelled out the criteria there clearly, when do they issue eligibility letter to students to study Sec 1 HCL

233 is definitely also not within Top 10 %

Next question
Did your daughter
( score A * in her Standard Chinese or score minimum at least a merit in Psle Higher Chinese) ?

Pose the same qn, to this 233-girl
There should be some differences, between your daughter and this 233-girl
