My DD’s T-score is 248 + 1 ( HCL). She scored 4As but not offered HCL. I’m wondering why?
-
Because she did not fall into Top 10 % Psle cohort
And also
either her Standard Chinese did not acquire an A star
Or she did not score minimum a merit for her psle higher chinese
This year,
Top 10 % cut off was at 252.
At 248, she is 4 points away from Top 10 % cut off cohort (252). So, she is Not within Top 10 %
Refer to MOE website
Moe spelled out the criteria there clearly, when do they issue eligibility letter to students to study Sec 1 HCL -
But her schoolmate’s score was 233 and was offered HCL

233 is definitely also not within Top 10 %
But her schoolmate’s score was 233 and was offered HCL
Next question
Did your daughter
( score A * in her Standard Chinese or score minimum at least a merit in Psle Higher Chinese) ?
Pose the same qn, to this 233-girl
There should be some differences, between your daughter and this 233-girl -
Out of interest, I also want to know how fluid CHS is on this. I'm somewhat pessimistic on it 😁. I don't seem to have heard many cases.

Hi Sunny,
You can give a call yourself to Catholic High (VP Academic), find out yearly, roughly, how many students transfer from O level into IP track ?
and
roughly what kind of criteria required? Do this inquiry only if your son is keen in IP.
Otherwise,
if not keen in end of Sec 2 migrate over to IP, don't make any inquiry. Just rope your son's opinion whether he prefer CHS or study Nan Hua himself. The student himself must also take ownership & responsibility, over which Secondary school he himself prefer to study in -
I think the dual-track schools typically only let the top few students (top 5, top 10?) to switch from O-level to IP.

Thanks all for the replies to my post.
My child got 205 and after much discussion, child decided only with Hougang Sec 205 and Yio Chu Kang Sec 189.
Is it normal to put 2 choices only as child think if couldn't get to HGS will sure fall into YCKSS so not willingly to have more options?
Any parents have review for Serangoon Sec (194) and Serangoon Garden Sec (188)?
Child not keen in Serangoon Sec but I still hoping to get some reviews for both above schools so that child can re-consider.
Thanks in advance.
I will try to talk to child again to put more options.
As this is our first time on the PSLE sch selection, sorry for silly questions.
I want to find out so if say child's intention is only either Hougang Sec 205 or Yio Chu Kang Sec 189 but we want to use up the 6 options. If we put like below, what are the chances to be able to go to YCKSS if can't go in to Hougang Sec:
1) Hougang Sec 205
2) Yio Chu Kang Sec 189
3) Seng Kang Sec 209
4) Punggol Sec 205
5) Serangoon Sec 194
6) Serangoon Garden Sec 188
Will the above placing cause the child to secure a place in say Punggol Sec if cannot secure a place in Hougang Sec and Seng Kang Sec?
Thanks in advance. -

That's what I thot. So better not choose a school for it's O level programme in view of changing over to IP. I think to be given chance to do that - quite slim chance.
I think the dual-track schools typically only let the top few students (top 5, top 10?) to switch from O-level to IP. -
Would like to seek for opinion, last yr cutoff point for Hwa zhong was 257. Understand that this school every yr got a lot of pupils get in based on DSA. If based on last yr cutoff point, if same point thus year, what is chance to get in?

Hi we live in Hougang, son got 230. Need advice on sch choices:
1) Holy Innocents (233)
2) xinmin (235)
3) Bowen (226)
4) Edgefield (229)
5) presbytarian high (235)
6) ??
Are these ok, what other options should we look at?
