Ultimately, it is the L1R5 that is getting you into JC, and determining which JC you can get into.
Hihi, trouble you to shed some light on this. Why is taking an additional humanity subject better than taking another science subject? I belong to the older group where triple science is looked up upon by peers as the smarties. Thank you very much.hazeline\" post_id=\"2006023\" time=\"1606733751\" user_id=\"18065:
I think it’s easier to list the autonomous schools that don’t offer triple science. There are 28 autonomous schools, I suspect at least 20 of them offer triple science.
I think this triple science thing is targeting an older group of market audience or those who ya-ya about being able to study triple science. Frankly, triple science has limited advantages (and losing a humanity subject is a huge disadvantage) these days.
It is compulsory to include a Humanities subject in the R5, whereas it isn't the case for any Science.
However, some JCs to specify that to read a Science subject at A Levels (H2), you will need to fulfil certain prerequites, for example, having a B3 at the O levels.
Arh, ic. Thank you! Time for me to hop over to the Subject Combination thread. -

I guess for IP school, there is no harm taking triple science since they don't have to worry about maximising chance to have better results at L1R5. Further, like some said here, it's easier to pick up a humanity subject in JC but it's hard to pick up a science subject.
HCI allows student to take 2 sciences (Phy and Chem), 2 humanities, 2 maths and 2 languages, plus Additional subject of either Bio or Computing, total 9 subjects, provided his Sec 2 result is good.Zeal mummy\" post_id=\"2006037\" time=\"1606736625\" user_id=\"58173:
Are the children allowed to do 3 sciences with 2 humanities? Including 2 math and 2 languages, 9 in total? What’s the popular subject combination for IP now?
10th subject needs special approval.
-
Maybe I’m confused. If ESIS (top 3% or 3.3% whatever it is) is 261 again, doesn’t that mean there are basically the same number of people >= 261 as last year (slight adjustment for cohort size)?
If there are more people between 252 and 261 this year than last year, maybe I see the argument that there are more people around 261 (on the upside) vs. North of 270 this year (vs. last year)
Sill, I mentioned a while back that two years ago ESIS / 10% was 261 / 252 and three of the top four schools actually had a lower cutoff point than last year (when it was 261 / 250).
To me, it seems that the general IP cutoff will likely rise, but anything else is hard to say. The DSA at 4 schools only and NUSH are ~650 kids. In number only, that’s ~half of the scores >= 261. Without knowing where these people are taken out of the distribution (relative to prior years), this still seems like a guess to me. -

my girl chosen triple science at the end of year 2 -IP ( I disagree though as I worry she could be too bogged down with hw) however the school allowed the students to drop 1 science at end of year 3 if u can’t cope but she managed to year 4 and yes, she studied very hard and not only on sciences but all subjects .her reason of taking tripe science was becos she don’t know which faculty she going to pursue in Uni even till today though she is going JC next yr. She chooses Bio n chem for JC though .
My conclusion is , if your child chooses it and can manage , let your child decides.
Expresso
Your daughter is in IP. She doesn’t have this L1R5 thing to worry about. L1R5, unfortunately, ultimately determines now the game is being played.
The other determinant of how to play the game, is subject Pre-requisites for university. As it stands, there is NO COURSE that has biology as the must-have Pre-requisite. Even medicine, dentistry and pharma asks for CHEMISTRY and either physics / bio. Therefore, if you are truly not sure of what to study for, take 2 sciences, 2 maths, 2 humanities and 2 languages before moving on to 2 sciences 1 maths and some other contrasting subject of your choosing. -

Thanks for the past years stats!
Btw, 2020 refers to graduating class this year right?
If we know the highest t score in most schools we may have an even clearer picture on how the 2020 cohort has fared as compared to previous years.
Yes, 2020 refers to t score achieved in 2020.
To understand how the 2020 PSLE cohort performed and therefore have a better perspective of how the COP of different secondary schools are likely to move (ie. increase or decrease), can parents of this year's cohort please help to post the highest T-score (to their best knowledge) in their child's respective primary school by clicking on the below link?

Many thanks in advance!

If I am not wrong, for HCI, the 2 humanities comprises of Geography/ History and Social Studies. In other schools, SS is paired with an elective Humanities to make up one whole subject. So SS is not considered as a full O level subject in itself. And hence, HCI is in fact only offering 1 Humanities? Is my understanding correct?

Dear parents,
When submitting the highest T-score for your respective primary schools, please EXCLUDE the HCL bonus points. The more complete the data that we have for the highest t-score in the respective primary schools, the better will our understanding be of how the 2020 PSLE cohort performed and this will go in some way in helping parents who have yet to make up their minds on their choice/ranking of secondary schools for S1 posting.
Hence, would appreciate if you could please share this t-score information by clicking on the below link.

There are a few Special Programs which the humanities subjects are slightly different. -
Hi parents! I heard the 2020 PSLE students have received their PSLE results few days ago. If you have any questions about secondary school life, please feel free to ask me. During the holidays I find myself bored so I decided to help out! Please note I can’t guarantee to be able to answer every question!
Here is some background information about me: I am Secondary 1 student from what most would label "a neighbourhood school". I am currently studying in the Express Stream! -

I wasn't clear
my reply is relation to the earlier question of whether HCI offers triple science and double humanities. So the answer is no, as students can only take two science in order to choose one more humanities.
