Hi, just kaypohing...
For tingxie in St Nick (SAP school), from P3 to P6, not sure about (starting P1 nor P2), usually laoshi test the whole class tingxie, by asking pupils to write out in one or two whole complete sentences, from start (beginning) to end, with a full stop. St Nick tingxie don't test students with individual \"two-by-two\" ci-yu. We tingxie our students, using full complete sentences...[/quote]
We do 默写句子 (roughly 16 words to memorise), on top of some 5词组 & 3短句, from ~P3 onwards. In the case of enriched Higher Chinese classes (banded P4 onwards), besides this regular 听写默写 set, there are an additional 9短语 per chapter

It is probably too early to gauge her academic strength at kindergarten.
Hi
If my girl is average in kindergarten, would she suffer in SNGS?
Do you have alternative choices of primary schools with better affiliate minimum requirement (AMR)? If not, it may be better for her to study in SNGS. Work closely with her teachers and give her the support when required. Most kids can handle P1 and P2 well.
All the best to your girl. -
Thanks for the replies!
My girl likes to dawdle, so am concerned that she cannot handle the competitive school environment as she progresses (if she can get in). -
@jalyn22 I can understand your concerns. Mine likes to dawdle too. Trying our best to work on this before she starts primary school.

Are you a Phase 2A1 (alumni) mommy ?
Thanks for the replies!

If Yes,
take one step at a time, first.
Enrol your daughter into St Nick. Anyway, at kindergarten level, too early to come to any conclusion. Lower primary (P1 to P3), no issue.
At end of P4 streaming,
out of Total six P5 classes available, five classes offer HCL, only one class offer Standard CL, where the students in this class don't take HCL.
This shows that a lot of (P5 & P6) students here studied HCL, because the ratio is (5 upon 6) classes, doing HCL. Since Primary 1 day 1 started, our Chinese laoshi have grounded our pupils
well in Chinese.
For other subjects like (Maths & Science), at P5 & P6, there are re-medial classes available, if students need help in these subjects. Don't be afraid to approach your class Teachers, for help. It is better to open your mouth, seek help, than to remain silent. Our teachers here are supportive. -
To all parents
Dont under estimate the ability of your girls to adapt to the school… a
nd don’t underestimate the school’s ability to help them.
As well as your ability to support your girl in the school
Speaking from experience - as my two girls from SNGS are now married and working already

Thank you @ ResilienceLC for the assurance!
Just curious, do any existing or ex parents of SNGS girls have any idea how is the support for students with special needs in the school? For example, dyslexia.
I can’t recall if we had any back in my schooling days. -
For lower primary
(P1 and P2) and from mid (P3 to upper P6) -
for students who encountered difficulty in learning :
eg.
- autistic
- dyslexic
- encountered Chinese language learning impairment / disability
- attention deficit ADD
- very short concentration attention span ADHD ,
what kind of support (If any), does SNGS primary school provide,
apart from
giving these affected students
extended longer exam time period,
to complete their test papers (during CA1 / SA1 / SA2), seated
inside certain designated small assigned room ?
===========================
For pupils who encountered learning Chinese language impairment mid-way through in SNGS,
not yet discovered nor diagnosed in P1 nor P2 yet, only got diagnosed from P3 to P5 time period,
does it mean that the pupil have to leave SNGS, seek transfer to some other primary school instead, since SNGS is a SAP school, where learning Chinese is compulsory
Or
still allowed to remain inside SNGS, exempted from Chinese ? -

MOE's requirement for Higher MT under AL system is fixed.
It is:
a) AL 8 or
b) AL 14 (or better) plus
either
i) AL 1 or AL 2 in MT
or
ii) Merit or Distinction in HMT.
https://www.moe.gov.sg/microsites/psle-fsbb/psle/new-psle-scoring-system.html
All 2021 P6 PSLE SNGS pupils (born 2009), please take note.
Under the old Tscore system (up to Year 2020), below was the old criteria.
Pupils who offer Mother Tongue language (MTL)
(ie. Chinese / Malay / Tamil)
or
HMTL
(ie. Higher Chinese / Higher Malay / Higher Tamil) at the PSLE And
1) are ranked amongst the Top 10% of the PSLE
OR
2) are in the Top (11% to 30%) band who meet the language criteria
(Ie. an A* grade in the MTL
Or
at least a Merit in the HMTL) -
may opt to study HMTL at Secondary schools.
Source of info
https://www.moe.gov.sg/education/secondary/language-programmes
By comparing both set of criteria,
is pretty clear that
a)
Top 10 % PSLE cohort :
Cut-off at
AL 8 points
Vs.
Cut-off at
around Tscore 252,
Because (reasoning behind)
In past years, if scored 252 & above, PSLE students qualified to study Third foreign language at Bishan / Newton MOELC in
Japanese / Spanish / French / German
b)
Top 30% PSLE cohort :
Cut off at : AL 14 points
