Importance of HCL/CL grade for uni admission or scholarship
-
I believe it is important only if you are applying for studies related to Chinese.
Take a look at NUS -
Mother Tongue Language (MTL) Requirement
Meet the Mother Tongue Language (MTL) requirement for admission by having one of the following*:
Minimum of D7 for the higher MTL paper taken at the 'O' Level examination.
Minimum of ‘S’/ ‘D7’ grade for the H1/‘AO Level’ MTL paper or General Studies in Chinese.
Minimum of 'S'/‘O’ grade for the H2/‘A Level’ MTLL paper taken at the 'A' Level examination.
Pass in the MTL 'B' Syllabus paper at the 'A' Level examination.

The benefits of take HCL -
Secondary students who took Higher Chinese at O Levels are exempted from taking Mother Tongue if they progress to Junior College. Students who didn’t take Higher Chinese are required to study Chinese as an additional subject for A-levels. i.e. H1 Chinese. Thus, these students who are exempted would have a lighter workload over the course of 2 years in Junior College.. -

Hi nerov,
Hi parents,
Would anyone be able to share if the HCL/CL grade is a consideration factor when it comes to uni admisssion or scholarship application?
Thanks!

H1 CL (or O Level HCL) may be included in the computation of the rank points (RP). If included, RP will be rebased to 100 and then multiplied by 90. Local autonomous university will consider the higher RP.

You mentioned that your child is an \"NTU scholar\", inspite of HCL \"F9\".

What did your child get,
for his H1 (Chinese) in A-level JC ?
