CHIJ St Nicholas Girls'
-
To all parents
Dont under estimate the ability of your girls to adapt to the school… a
nd don’t underestimate the school’s ability to help them.
As well as your ability to support your girl in the school
Speaking from experience - as my two girls from SNGS are now married and working already
Resilience LC
Mr Matthew Ng -
Thank you @ ResilienceLC for the assurance!
Just curious, do any existing or ex parents of SNGS girls have any idea how is the support for students with special needs in the school? For example, dyslexia.
I can’t recall if we had any back in my schooling days. -
For lower primary
(P1 and P2) and from mid (P3 to upper P6) -
for students who encountered difficulty in learning :
eg.
- autistic
- dyslexic
- encountered Chinese language learning impairment / disability
- attention deficit ADD
- very short concentration attention span ADHD ,
what kind of support (If any), does SNGS primary school provide,
apart from
giving these affected students
extended longer exam time period,
to complete their test papers (during CA1 / SA1 / SA2), seated
inside certain designated small assigned room ?
===========================
For pupils who encountered learning Chinese language impairment mid-way through in SNGS,
not yet discovered nor diagnosed in P1 nor P2 yet, only got diagnosed from P3 to P5 time period,
does it mean that the pupil have to leave SNGS, seek transfer to some other primary school instead, since SNGS is a SAP school, where learning Chinese is compulsory
Or
still allowed to remain inside SNGS, exempted from Chinese ? -

MOE's requirement for Higher MT under AL system is fixed.
It is:
a) AL 8 or
b) AL 14 (or better) plus
either
i) AL 1 or AL 2 in MT
or
ii) Merit or Distinction in HMT.
https://www.moe.gov.sg/microsites/psle-fsbb/psle/new-psle-scoring-system.html
All 2021 P6 PSLE SNGS pupils (born 2009), please take note.
Under the old Tscore system (up to Year 2020), below was the old criteria.
Pupils who offer Mother Tongue language (MTL)
(ie. Chinese / Malay / Tamil)
or
HMTL
(ie. Higher Chinese / Higher Malay / Higher Tamil) at the PSLE And
1) are ranked amongst the Top 10% of the PSLE
OR
2) are in the Top (11% to 30%) band who meet the language criteria
(Ie. an A* grade in the MTL
Or
at least a Merit in the HMTL) -
may opt to study HMTL at Secondary schools.
Source of info
https://www.moe.gov.sg/education/secondary/language-programmes
By comparing both set of criteria,
is pretty clear that
a)
Top 10 % PSLE cohort :
Cut-off at
AL 8 points
Vs.
Cut-off at
around Tscore 252,
Because (reasoning behind)
In past years, if scored 252 & above, PSLE students qualified to study Third foreign language at Bishan / Newton MOELC in
Japanese / Spanish / French / German
b)
Top 30% PSLE cohort :
Cut off at : AL 14 points -
.

the Top 10% PSLE cohort Cut-off has already been fixed by MOE, to be at AL ...
During last Friday MTP, there was no additional information on the new AL affiliated cutoff score until MOE announcement next year.
However
P did mention that parent can refer to the new HCL eligibility benchmark for ≤ 8 total AL score & 9 -14 total AL score as a guide for the top 10% and top 30%, under the new system.
8 points,
Read that part under Higher Mother Tongue section
https://www.moe.gov.sg/microsites/psle-fsbb/psle/new-psle-scoring-system.html
AL 8 points (Top 10% PSLE cohort Cut-off)
is equivalent to
around 252, under the old Tscore system
Because
in most of the past years, PSLE students with 252 and above, qualified to study at MOELC (Bishan / Newton)
3rd foreign language
Japanese / Spanish / French / German
Today, MOE still hasn't published any info regarding what is St Nick Affliation Cut off point, going to be. News will of be out, by end of June (Term 2). So, we just wait. Probably after 2021 P6 mid year SA1 exam is over in the later part of May month, MOE might announce.
However, let's take a look at this special AL \" 8 \" points, which is the 10% Cut off PSLE cohort, been fixed by MOE.
Now, let's just assume
suppose ....
St Nick were to give 2 discounted points affliation at AL 10,
that means those SNGS affliated
students with AL 10 still can come back to study O-level Secondary, that's great, isn't it ?
But of course, this is just an assumption only. Until we hear the actual announcement, from MOE till then... -

I think it is not the “2021 new PSLE AL COP for affiliation students”. The link shows it is what the students who sat for the PSLE in 2020 got.
