:xedfingers: Happy Mother's Day to the devoted mummies sharing the wait with their DS/DD. All the best. Likely there will be offers for the waitlisted in the coming weeks as those with double offers release their places.

Over the past 2 years, she had truly enjoy her learning journey in YLL; the friends she met and made...still making and enjoying. Pre-covid, there are so many opportunity of local & overseas programs; sadly some plans were aborted since last year due to covid.
Forget about some hearsay that med school = not enough sleep or no social life.
I think her time in med school is far more interesting as compared to her JC time...
BTW, she did not opt to stay in hostel, which we are glad, very happening place even for med students.
Due to this fact, she best friends are also not staying in hostel...friends are very important factors, this I believed.
Interesting views, but they are still views like opinion pieces in news papers. How can anybody know the difference if they have only experienced one system, may I ask? All said, whatever suits the child's learning needs. If world is moving to more empowering modes of learning... perhaps it is time to catch up.... wow... are we talking about cryptocurrency here? hahah :imsorry:
Oh yeah I remember you like to wear mask... -

It is perfectly fine to have different views; it adds colors to thoughts.

We knew, no 1 system could cater to all.
As with any system; those blend/adapt into it will generally does better...
Either school yields MBBS, can't say 1 is better than the other.
As with our education system, top students in cohort will have better opportunity is specialize fields...Someone up there in the system is going to decide who gets into what...So, didn't think this lever of education would be mapping out of interest to suit the learning needs. Wait till you hear about the horror stories of attachment to hospitals and clinics from year 2... -

Dear Harrods,
Honestly, my daughter was sold and perceived LKC as the 1st choice in 2019.Harrods\" post_id=\"2022968\" time=\"1620349872\" user_id=\"184010:

Nus has perceived better reputation as it is the older school. But people on the ground now says NTU churn out better drs
Very warm and welcoming coupled with very new facilities both in NTU and Novena...
TBL was quite interesting, probably lots of opportunities for sharing knowledge within the group...
YLL is an establishment with >100 years of history.
It does not makes us felt as warn and welcoming as compared to LKC.
Their CG system (6 or more in a group) is similar to TBL.
LKC offered 1st, a week later, YLL offer came...Like some of you, receiving offers from both school means dilemma.
My daughter was kind of skewed towards LKC; Warm, welcoming, newer facilities, good vibes.
Wife and I skewed to YLL (We didn't expressed this to her); Its natural instinct.
After talking to families and friends; She accepted offer from YLL, despite her mind was skewing towards LKC.
That was a difficult choice, then.
We discussed strengths of these 2 schools over the weeks before deadlines to accept either offer.
Final decision is hers; either way, the same MBBS.
Progresses is really up to individual and what drives them beyond the 5 years in school...As parents, we will have little or no influence.

Greatly appreciate your input, does your daughter have more input as to why she think YLL is the better choice? I heard from friends that NUS curriculum is starting to copy NTU curriculum and that NUS is slower to adopt more modern teaching styles. Also heard that NUS \"over-teach\" as compared to NTU.[/quote]LKC is very successful in selling 'good feeling about the school' to those attended their open-house, talk and tea-session...We liked the good vibes.
I am sure it has what it take to produce future doctors.
YLL has a long history...And still evolving and adapting necessary/good changes, that is good character of any great establishment, be it school, corporation, government...
As with any top school, is there any 'over-teaching' which ends badly...even yes, they are forgotten with the bigger & brighter pictures...this is the real world, sadly.
I 'heard' med-students at YLL comprises of 60-70% from the 2 top JCs, pretty well known for over-teaching and producing plenty of all-rounder years after years.
Medicine field are continuously making progress with new found technologies. What they learn today may not be 100% completely relevant when they start practicing years later...so the learning continue to be relevant in their chosen field/specialty.
My daughter made her choice; didn't sense any regret as she does well and the most important factor we think is...she is fortunate to have made and making good friends in these 2 years. Those that click, work/play hard and care a lot for each others... The course is demanding, so, always good to know that they are not alone.
She shared some negative experiences from time to time, just venting... No where is perfect, we guess. -
Any advise on UK/AUS medical schools where Singaporean kids used to go?

You may also read Reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/SGExams/comments/n866vl/uni_ntu_or_nus_medicine/ which is also mentioning about final year pass rate as well, but not sure.
It is better for individual students (lucky ones got the option to choose) to decide.
Those who got offer from only one school should be happy and grateful to the school offered them the choice to study medicine. -
Spoke to close friends who teach / examine students at both Med schools here (they are practising clinicians) and this is what they say about LKC Medicine :
- excellent teaching pedagogy
- first class facilities “state of the art”
- students have been impressive when they examine them at the clinical exams
In their opinion , both schools are strong .
I didn’t ask for a “comparison” since YLL already has legacy we all know about . I guess kids who have received one offer or the other are very blessed . Wishing all the best to every parent waiting here ! -
