has anyone attended MGS open house or familiar with classes in MGS?

Are there still SBA classes for o level? How are the girls selected to SBA classes? By subject? What is the SBA COP for non-affiliated?

What is the chance for a score of AL8?

It seems that the criteria for ESIS has been changed from the previous years. Below os from moe website. I guess that students who got ESIS this time are those admitted to independent school through DSA.
_‐----------------------------------
\t
Awarded to the top one-third of students admitted to independent schools by PSLE score.

Students who meet the ESIS cut-off score and are admitted to independent schools under the Direct School Admission Exercise will also be offered the ESIS.

Actually AL5 may not be the cut off, cos ESIS letter may had been given to those who had been confirmed via DSA to an independent school. My rationale is that only those confirmed thru DSA going to Indep. schools got offered the scholarship first. need someone who's successful in dsa to an independent school and who scored AL6 to confirm if he/she got the scholarship too. other AL6s still need to go through posting to be placed in an indep. school. maybe by then , they will send out the eligibility letters. ESIS is meant for those attending indep schools only

If the child is eligible for ESIS, the child will be informed on PSLE results day, NOT upon posting to independent school. The part about DSA is just saying that regardless whether the child enters the independent school via S1 posting or DSA, the child will be eligible for ESIS as long as the results meet the ESIS cut off.
I see, so the eligibility for the scholarship is only offered on psle results day. I understand about the DSA part. i was just thinking if it could be due to the fact that it's being offered to DSA students posted to independent schools First cos they r confirmed going into indep schools. As for the cut off, do they merely look at AL5/6 or the raw scores?

The EESIS eligibility letter is issued on results day (for both DSA and non-DSA students)

But whether or not the EESIS scholarship funds are disbursed to the student depends on whether the student enrols in an independent school or not.

So if u get the eligibility letter, but NOT attending independent school, you dont get any EESIS money.

That is what i understand. Feel free to correct.

Correct.

This also means that if you already dsa into the independent school, but did not score well enough to qualify for eeis, you dont get the money.

Hi,

We are staying at Pasir Ris. My son got AL7M.
May I know what any advise on Secondary School Selection?
1. NAN CHIAU HIGH SCHOOL - 40 min
2. HWA CHONG INSTITUTION - 80 min
3.TEMASEK JUNIOR COLLEGE - 65 min (upgrading from 2024 to 2027 (tentative), school will hold classes at 2 Tampines Ave 9)
4.CATHOLIC JUNIOR COLLEGE - 70 min

Should we even consider if the travelling take more than 1 hour?
Any other school that we should put into consideration?
Can consider VS, my son has a few friends staying in Pasir Ris.
I believe ESIS cut off point under the AL system should be different to T-score.

a) Under T-score, the ESIS is around 261 to 262.
b) Under AL system ESIS is AL5

Which mean, under AL system, those AL6 or AL7 students with combined t-score of 262 and above will not be eligilble for ESIS, while in the past it may be possible

Maybe MOE still used raw score to get the top 3%, so some AL6 may get ESIS award.

So far, no parents have reported any AL6 students getting ESIS yet. And I also doubt MOE will do anything like this to complicate the selection criteria because AL grade is now the new rating system.

Furthermore if AL6 + ESIS is better than AL6, then many parents and students go back to the old ways of chasing after 100 marks just to qualify for ESIS.
with due respect, i think it doesn't make sense if ESIS purposely impose AL5 as the cut off for top 3%. The \" TOP 3%\" in itself means total raw scores logically. otherwise it is not fair to the AL6/AL7s whose scores are better than AL5s, whose efforts need to be rewarded.
no parents here have reported AL6s getting ESIS could be the fact that they are not in this forum or prefer to be low profile.

Sad to say, most of the elit schools have many foreigners and PR. These are the group of people did very well ($$) and put Singaporean children in a disadvantage position. You seldom see a blue collar's kid get into elit school compare to old time.

The so call all schools are good schools are invalid because the ratio of people being successful in life between the elit and neighbour schools are too wide.

Even with Singaporean first, not many local children meet the requirement.

When I pass by or visit the following school, below is my opinion:
Look at RVHS, it is as good as China School.
Look at RI, never see so many Indian in the School.
Look at Hwa Chong/NYGHS, it is looks like a Rich School. The countless trail of luxury cars waiting to drive into the school.

And many more.
Totally agree with you. After the first day of school, my ds told me tt he was surprised tt many of his classmates called their mum after class and spoke in Mandarin with China accent. My ds told me tt the Prc parents setup their own parent class chatgroup without the local parents. When I attended PTM or some school events, I was also surrounded by PRCs mums. I feel sad tt many local kids would have been \"squeezed\" out by these richer, highly educated and more resourceful parents who could afford expensive tuitions for their children. What Ri's ex principal said about Ri becoming a middle class school is really true.

The form is structured in this way:

Section A: selection choices for 6 sec school
Section B: Option for third language (only appear for cohort top 10%)
Section šŸ˜„ Option for ESIS (only appear for cohort top 3%)

I am Singaporean, both my DD are in top schools as above (although different school due to influence of their respective primary school mates), my eldest has close indian friend/schoolmate, and younger has close PRC friend/shoolmates. They totally enjoy their friendship and had never heard them complain. Both my DDs go to schools by public transport, I don't see anything wrong. Both my DDs also had ESIS, and just to inform you ESIS is only for singaporeans.
