There is no right or wrong in the U courses, just whether suitable or not, like it or not.
For most students, if they get to choose a general area, or they are fairly flexible, that's true. But for a few, they can flunk out within their first year, spiral into depression, etc. Not something that we would want for a young person.

To me, quite foggy in front. I have not much preference on what dd wants to become next time. To me is just go wherever she can go..occasionally she will tell me she wants to become this or that..I don't know how much she knows or from where she got the idea from coz she has no one in the family to check with on those job/industry.
At least your daughter has an idea. My girls are clueless and says \"we follow you and papa footsteps\" .....not smthg I am keen on Hahaha.....

Left 100% to the child’s decision without any (bias) input from parents, I’ve personally come across a handful of kids who opted for Uni courses in a more applied learning environment and enrolled in SUTD & SIT, despite achieving RP of high 80s/90. Some parents have not heard of these 2 Universities or their courses in Singapore. NUS & NTU, and possibly SMU are more popular.

It looks like she is more motivated to earn money..I would think that if tell her which profession can earn more money she will go for it, provided she can have the choice la (this is the difficult part). I don't think she based it on her interest..We talked before like few years back when she was in Pri..she says she wants to follow my foot step..my original profession and my dd2 says she wants to be like me, SAHM :faint: 😓

Both you and yr dh in acctg/finance? I think it is good right..

Doing an overseas course is better, provided the overseas university is reputable. The experience is invaluable. Otherwise, better to do NUS/NTU or other local U.

I agree with the above reasons.

Also, pragmatically, some overseas reputable Unis (eg. Tier 1 Aussie ones) are relatively easier to get into than NUS/NTU (equivalent courses).

After graduation, if come back to SG to work, HR dept of many govt-linked employers will offer higher starting pay versus NUS/NTU grads.

I'm not sure an Ivy League university is really desirable 🙂 It's famous mostly because of all the celebrities that attended the colleges there. Better go for MIT or something 🙂

Hmm...why do govt pay a premium to say aussie grads over our local grads?
Anyway my main concern is really safety.... I don't feel good leaving my girls alone studying overseas....
