Any parents whose son was accepted and was disrupted from NS? For such cases, when will disruption start?
Disruption commenced as early as in June for last year batch.

The topography, expectations, demands and academic criteria may have changed the medical setting of how our medical schools have diversify their approaches to admission. The key is adapting to the ever-changing conditions and the challenges that the world is facing today.

The landscape of medicine is continually changing, and with so many advancements in technology and the increasing emphasis on patient-centered care, the pace of change can be dizzying. The medical educator’s role is to ensure that the doctors of tomorrow are ready for the future we can see coming and prepared to adapt to the changes we cannot even dream of today.

For example, we can see health care moving from a model in which a single provider — usually a physician — takes care of an individual patient to one in which a team of health care professionals collectively takes responsibility for an individual patient’s care and well-being. Where every decision about a patient used to be routed through the physician, in the new model leadership is fluid. Everyone on the health care team is responsible for taking charge of the patient’s care within his or her own level and area of expertise.

I see that most of the interest has been self-centered on pursuing MBBS rather then MD, the conditional pathway to medicine offered by Duke NUS with partnering local universities. I hope those passionate of medicine is not lacking the imagination alternative exploration.

I believe that the discussion on these topics have matured and no longer garnering interest. Noted most of these topics have been swapped over to other forums.

Wishes all parents of their respective DS/DD who is prospecting for medicine all the best outcome.

Yes, Duke NUS tuition fee is very expensive compared to NUS and NTU. At least those prospective students who long to pursue medicine are given an opportunity and an alternative option to fulfill what they are so passionate of.

Despite the expensive tuition fee the school offer range of scholarships and bursaries to help prospective students so that there are equal opportunity for all students to pursue medicine regardless of their financial standing.

Regardless of NUS, NTU or Duke NUS medical schools, they are great universities that produced outstanding medical professionals that provided support for our overall health systems.

Our government with strategic foresight was able to envision into the future development and different trends and events that were happening in the world of today. Let's us reminiscing the Speech given by Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister, at official opening of Duke-Nus Graduate Medical School, 28 September 2009 - https://www.pmo.gov.sg/Newsroom/speech-mr-lee-hsien-loong-prime-minister-official-opening-duke-nus-graduate-medical

For a glimpse of the tuition fees from the respective medical school (year 2022-2023) :-

                NUS YLLSOM - MBBS
                $30,200 per year
                $151,000 (5 years)

                NTU LKCSOM - MBBS
                $35,000 per year
                $175,000 (5 years)

                Duke NUS - MD
                $48,050 per year
                $192,200 (4 years)

Notes: The above is only the tuition fees and doesn't include other miscellaneous expenditure. The total end figures could probably be more if you worked that out.

Duke NUS MD programs are difference from NUS and NTU MBBS programs. Duke NUS cultivate Clinicians that can be a Scientist specialized in biomedical research or in biomedical engineering. The students come from various field of expertise - Engineering, Computer Science, Architecture designing, Business and Law. So they put their knowledge and skills into full play at their medical practices after graduation.

These graduated scientist/clinician/physician/doctor depending on how you address them are doctors holding an MD degree. They can practice in the area of medicine, in scientific research, in medical engineering or architecture who can think creatively and work across disciplines. They possess the versatility to analyse healthcare issues and come up with innovative solutions in areas such as healthcare product design (medical devices/equipment), biomaterials, drug delivery, hospital bed allocation systems, patient monitoring, and hospital design.

With the ability to treat patients and design medical innovations, graduates will have an edge in the industry, quickly becoming the new benchmark and future leaders in healthcare.

NUS - They don’t have a specific pathway course but students can apply to further their medicine study with DUKE NUS after getting their degree.

                  NTU-DUKE NUS Medical Pathway - Courses: -
                  1) Double Major Programme in Biomedical Sciences and BioBusiness (BSB)

                  2) Double Major Programme in Biological Sciences and Psychology (BSPY).

SMU-DUKE NUS Medical Pathway - Designated core curriculum courses by SMU and must include a second major subject on health management and economics.

                  SUTD-DUKE NUS Medical Pathway - Course: -
                  1) Bachelor of Engineering (BEng).

                  2) Bachelor of Science (BSc).

Applying for Duke NUS medicine is as competitive as NUS and NTU medicine. Their available slots for potential candidates are only about 60 places annually (e.g. about 15 places are allotted for those selected from among the pathway tie-up universities. The remaining are being allotted for those eligible outside of the conditional pathway.

There are many bright students and you can see that medicine is always a competitive course and you need a lot of "Luck" to be present to get to study medicine regardless of applying for NUS, NTU or Duke NUS.
