Just FYI, if taking JC route, taking HCL would be useful because once you pass HCL, you do not need to take CL in JC.
Some IP schools set a higher criteria, (eg. min B4 to skip CL in JC).
Also, check if the school has both HCL and CL because for some schools, they can start of with HCL in S1 but if cannot cope, then can drop to CL. Some SAP schools, HCL is compulsory for all students. -

I agree. My friend is so happy with Cedar girls IP. The school leaders and trs are very supportive and caring. Her girl did not do well in Y1 but they (including the school leaders) gave her alot of support and encouragement to help her to catch up. The trs kept in close contact with her to update her on her DD's progress.
Any reason didn't consider cedar girl ip? I have a niece from there and highly recommended to us.. -

Thank you for your reply.
AL5 is sure in
AL6D may require balloting depending on how many students applying each year.
Foresee many parents will push for IP instead of O level.
Schools with IP course could be more difficult to get in.
No matter how MOE/Minister does, it is always stressful to parents.
Cut off was 7D last year. I hope it won’t change this year.
Indeed very stressful. -

Thank you for your reply. I will give it a try. My concern is my daughter’s higher Chinese is merit and not distinction so not sure of the chances. Also need to take into consideration this year’s intake how many are apply for the school.
NYGH COP non- affiliated 4(D) - 7(D)
7D<6<6P<6M<6D
worth a try if i were you. -

Thank you for your reply.
NYGH COP was AL7D, not AL6D.
So AL6M stands a very high chance to get in.
I will give it a try.
It’s within the criteria according to last year’s hopefully it doesn’t change this year and the number of students applying.
Also with a merit for higher Chinese, distinction will be placed before merit. Another cause for worry… -
Hello parents, total newbie here to find out information and opinions, and thanks in advance to hear from anyone.
We are Singaporeans and live in the extreme west. For the two months, we were only hoping our child could get into RVHS with her prelim results and location as the main considerations. Then my child had pulled off the unthinkable and gotten AL4M, and the general opinion we got from surrounding friends was it would be a pity not to go RGS or NYGHS.
The thought of her joining NYGHS is extremely alluring but the distance remains the biggest barrier. And we like to find out more pros and cons from both NYGHS and RVHS.
Several questions we have for now below:
1. We have heard more great things about NYGHS’ teachers (in forums especially), and would like to find out more about teachers in RVHS, how students fare under them, etc.
2. How the two schools fare in terms of campuses, facilities. We do understand it’s hard to draw definitive comparisons between the two.
3. School hours for both school are about the same. The biggest worry remains on how often and late the students stay back after school hours; which of the two invest more in after school activities and CCAs.
4. We would like to find out more about the third language offering, how intense it gets, and the drop out rate, etc.
5. We aren’t financially well-off, even with the possibility of scholarship, we do worry about money when it comes to other programme fees in independent schools like NYGHS. Is that the case for NYGHS, or both? -

Our first choice is SCGS IP. For second choice, Cedar Girl IP COP is 8, Dunman is 8M ( again provided the COP don't change this year). So my girl may be balloted out for Cedar but for Dunman, her 8D would ensure a place for her.
3rd and 4th choice - both are COP 9 schools as safety net.
( but now you guys mentioned...maybe I should change my 3rd choice to Cedar....it is not as far as TJC/RV...) -

Ah..Ok. may be I did not receive the invitation for open house. But how is NJC IP students score for A-level and also school sport facilities, school culture? Can you advise as well?
NJC conducted open house. Your information is wrong. -

My older girl is in NYGH sec three. I highly recommend the school. My girl ends at 5:00pm for CCA days ( twice per week) and 6:45pm ( once a week) for third language day. Most school program can be paid by Edusave. There are also all sorts of financial help available.

I wish my younger girl ( PSLE this year) did well enough for NYGH! She got AL8D which is not bad but sadly not good enough to join her jie jie... -

My friends' DD goes from Boon Lay MRT to RGS by train. NYGHS is certainly doable. Do note that the girl needs to change bus at MRT (1 or 2 stop I think from Tan Kah Kee). Then Year 5 and 6 is at HC, which is right above MRT and not much walk.
Many students drop out of third language at some point. I dont have stats, but only 20-30% continue to write exam.
Dont worry about campus facilities - i think there is over emphasis on this in forums. All top schools are good in my opinion.
I do not know much about scholarships, may be others can give their opinion.
