Sharing a "scary" story.

Happened around August that year. (pre covid)

This VP from a top sch, got my number from the Condo management office and called me at my mobile directly.
-asked to speak the parent of child XXX, who is in the middle of P2 that year
(think about it, the sch did not reach out to the parent directly via their data base but called the mgt office to get the tenant/owners records directly !!)

I said, i am not the parent of XXX but i am renting the unit, #01-23 (example only).

VP wanted me to confirmed the landlord’s identify and any other locked rooms in the unit that was rented out, possibly to XXX’s parents.

Long and short: I rented the whole unit and XXX is not the landlord’s child.


EXTRA:
VP was chatty, so i proceed to ask more about XXX and what will happen to her.
The informal reply was:
-XXX had a sister in P1, who came in via phase 1.
- If XXX’s parents is found out to have violated the 24 month rule, both XXX and younger sister will be posted out.

Possibly, the parents had previously rented your unit to get the elder child into the school, but did not stay for the 30-month lock-in period, and subsequently for the younger child, they (or Singpass automatically) submitted a different address which is outside the distance bracket. School caught the discrepancy and hence investigated.


MOE website states not only will transfer the kids out, parents will also be liable for police investigation (jail term is possible, apart from fines).

Since we are sharing stories, let me share what i once overheard during P1 registration (back then it was not online but in-person). Couple raising their voices at the school staff because they had indicated the grandparent’s address for registration (<1km). It was different from the parents’ own IC address, therefore staff queried why. Couple insisted the kid was living with the grandparent, not them. Staff requested they go back and ask the grandparent to make a statutory declaration as a caregiver. I dunno what followed but the school was doing their part to question any suspicious behaviour.

:yikes: The VP of primary schools must be pretty busy doing these things

Conclusion: Don't play play with the system. Even if you do get away with it, you have to cower for 2 years behind a closed door fearing that door knock. Just be honest and do things the right way and you'd be fine.

Technically, so long as you move within the successful balloting area of 1km, you can move any number of times within the 2 years, so long as you hv proof of residence in those addresses, but it must be your family. Your family be ready to be questioned & hv a reasonable answer.

If found to be untruthful, the consequences can be dire, resulting in yr being expelled & parents hv to face punishment. More imptly, the child cld be marred by the incidence.
