buds:
ChiefKiasu:
...4.braille

...

Yuh boy, I'm shocked too  . I don't think half of us parents can even spell braille properly.

Premium centre ok, Chief..
Don't pray-pray.. Heheh.. 😉

You're fortunate tamarind, that the
centre can provide explorations to
many areas outside the core academics
to the children. Prior to this spelling list
the school/teacher must have conducted
a lesson or a story based on a special child.
Cause usually, spelling words are based on
or taken from general lessons covered with
the children in the class. If true, then i think
this is awesome. That the teacher/school takes
time to provide education for areas of special children.

I like it.
:celebrate:
buds,
You are absolutely correct 😉 This is exactly what the teacher is doing. This is their theme for this term.

Hi everyone

It’s the end of my son’s 2nd week in this spice program at serangoon north…time to give some feedback. First of all, my son is really enjoying school now, he’ll wake up automatically at 7am every morning to get ready to go school. It’s so different from the previous school whereby he’ll drag his feet to get ready. Guess it’s because the work is more challenging and he’s excited to attend the classes. On first day, the teacher sent me a sms of his picture in class, to assure me that he’s doing fine…am quite grateful for that. Ok…for curiculum updates…

English…you can gauge their standard by looking at the words
8 Apr (weekly spelling list)
1. into
2. just
3. harvest
4. ocean
5. distilled
6. minerals
7. blood
8. body
9. veins
10. I have a heart
11. We breathe in fresh air to keep our body healthy

Chinese
Sorry too lazy to key in the weekly tingxie list but I really like the chinese teacher. She’s very strict with the handwriting, my son got all correct for his tingxie but she made him re-wrote one of the words due to the handwriting. She told me that for a child to immerse into chinese culture, he must respect chinese calligraphy. One must be able to write properly before he can go furthur to understand the language.

Maths
Currently they’re doing addition…questions are like

________ + 8 = 20

And he also started doing problem sums today…
Qn: There are 15 chocolate cakes and 4 butter cakes. How many cakes are there in all?

Will update again next week…

Hi joajoa,

My kids in K1 at PAP Blk 205. I think its so so only after reading the threads fr some parents comments on their kid's PAP sch. 🙂

Mthly sch fees for nursery fr $101.90 to $203.80 vary every mth depends on diff expenses (Singaporean fees. PR or foreigner fees will be higher). Nursery is 3 hrs here.

Some info for ur ref:
- teachers use lotsa chinese language to talk to students.
- got malay teacher in this sch whom will teach malay and english language.
- In nursery, they got weekly 1 or 2 pgs of hand writing homework for chinese and english.
- nursery chinese homework like: 大,小,上,下,口,人,天,头,山,公,中,门,田,刀,有,见,云,今,月,水,巴,拉,日,东 etc...
- English homework: A to Z, a to z and some simple words like bad, and, can, den, fin, gig, hum, ink, jug, lip, kid, mop, peg, rat, nag, sit, tap etc...
- chinese teacher taught the poems with cute actions too like 床前明月光.../ 小白兔,白又白.../ 星期一呀,星期二呀.../ 小小鸭,扁嘴巴.../ 锄禾日当午... etc...
- english teacher taught some simple nursery rhymes and songs.
- teachers taught 10 story bks for english and 10 for chinese too.
- got diff rm for diff class. Quite comfortable space. Not using temp partition.
- separate toilets for boy/gal/staff.
- diff snacks daily like biscults/conflakes/cakes/noodle/porridge

Hope it helps.

Hi,

It seems like PAP kindergarten standards are pretty high. That makes me wonder what’s so special about the private kindergartens. My son is coming 2.5 this June and I am torn between giving him free exploration of his interests versus preparing him academically at this young age. Any advice.

I will be returning back to Singapore end July and am wondering if I should enroll my elder son who should be attending K2 this year, to a kindergarten or enrichment classes. He has been attending school over here in China but the standard is not as comparable as K2 in Singapore. He will be attending P1 in 2010. any advice or recommendations of good enrichment courses?
