      Hi

Can anybody help to advise is Model method being adopted as a standard syllabus for primary school?

This is b'cos my girl who is in P2, was not taught with Model method, but when i check with my niece also at the same level but in another school, it was taught.

so is this based on individual's school syllabus or is it stipulated by MOE?

      Pls. help..

      very confused... :?

        Heyya mama_mia,

        Nope, it’s not standard.
Not in my kiddie’s textbook in fact.
So, i suppose it is based on individual
        schools syllabus and their textbook’s
method of instruction. I am doing the
model method based on readings from
assessment books, which i consider as
extra knowledge… for her and ME too!

Model drawing is a technique(not really considered syllabus). I believe it will be taught in all primary schools in school. The difference only lies in when it will be taught. By end of p4, it will definitely be taught in all the schools.

If you want your child to learn earlier, go ahead. But make sure you teach correctly and that they draw nicely. Model drawing is pretty much useless if the child anyhow draw or their handwriting is illegible.

            Hi Hi,

There are many many methods of teaching Maths, what my son's school is teaching is different from my nephew school. Best part of the teaching, the class never use textbook. Now his textbk just leave at home and thats it.

If you want to find out more about the MOE teaching method on Maths, Please go to Times, Popular and flip through a model method for Maths by MOE. The price is about $37++ and it is a thick book. All the formulars from P1-Sec4 can be found in there.

                You’re welcome mama_mia,

So, will you be introducing the model
                method to your girl soon?

                  Hi san76,

I am interested in the book you mentioned; can I confirm the title of the book … "model method for Maths"???

Most of the time I am not able to guide my P2 in her model; so I cannot tell if she is doing it right.

                    Heyya curious_mom,

Just to share an assessment book. Special recommendation from
me and bitchymum (highlighted in P1/P2 Math thread) titled >
Problems Solving Process by Fabian Ng (starts from P2)

The book has examples on problems solving using models method.
It's quite a good assessment book for parents to teach their kids
cos the examples are easy to understand.

Another recommendation from me > check this website.
                    http://www.fan-learning.com.sg/

She conducted a workshop in my kiddie's school and i personally
found i benefitted from it. We also bought some of her books and
her P1 assessment pack comes with prepared flashcards as well
                    at an affordable price.

                      Dearest Curious_mom,

I think the title of this book is \"Model Method for Maths\" Remember it is about 20+cm by 18+cm in size. The colour of the book is light beige. In front you can see the logo of MOE. You can use from P1-Sec4.

Hope it will helps you in your teaching.
                      😄

                        Hi Buds,

The book you recommend is indeed a very useful. My kid like it. My son is now doing it though he is only P1. Very good book.
