DS also got CO from NJC today. Gratz to all those who received.
...would appreciate if someone can give their OWN opinion which is better , DHS or NJC ? this is not a poll, just would want to hear other views, as I am contemplating which of these to be chosen above the other.
Thank you. :?:
Heartlander, I am also keen for DS to be in NCC, but both DHS and NJC don't have it  -
Heartlander:
Powerpuff mum, now that our DSs have received CO, how about engaging with the school to request for uniform groups, or check if they intend to start some? I will send an email. I believe that with 3 years of Sec 1 enrolments, we should be seeing a better critical mass of Junior High students.[/quote]Yes Heartlander. I am with you on this. My DS is now a Senior Sixer for Scouts already and we would like him to carry on with it. Please keep me updated.
No, he's a scout in primary school. I am also a little concerned that NJC don't hv uniform groups. I understand that its new and all that but uniform groups are good for developing lifeskills.PowerPuff Mum:

Powerpuff mum, when you say your DS is a scout, do you mean that this offered as a CCA in NJC? or was this in primary school?
My son is still in P6 and has applied for NJC DSA. Awaiting results right now. -

I heard that 170 went for the 2nd phase, and 100 were successful. So it's a high chance for all those in 2nd phase.:celebrate:

1) Location could be a factor (Easterners prefer DHS)
2) DHS is more chinese in culture & emphasis, NJC is more multicultural & Singaporean
3) I heard from 2 sources that DHS is still struggling with JC education (its not easy for a Sec school to do JC)
4) I had the same concern if NJC would be able to handle the lower Sec students (Sec 1 was started in 2009). Seem s like there's no problem from all the feedback I am getting. Maybe easier for JC to do lower Sec. -

agree and wish to add...

1. yes, location is a factor. bukit timah/dunearn traffic is terrible
2. DHS culture is definitely more chinese than NJC. my daughter's pri classmates who went to DHS confirmed this.
4. NJC continues to fine tune their JH program. Based on my JH1 daughter's feedback, I think they are doing a good job so far.
5. NJC's minus point - no uniform groups -

Side track abit, JH1 boarding commence this Sunday, wonder your kids are excited about it . -

I understand there's 690 applicants at Phase 1, 170 shortlisted in Phase 2 and final shortlisted 100 applicants given CO.
