All About Full-Time Maids

Teaching does not only mean A,B,Cs and 1,2,3,s. A child benefits just simply having her educated mommy around. She learns to speak good English. An educated mommy is likely to spend her free time reading, writing or using the computer. Her child will copy all her good habits
Thanks for your encouraging words. Frankly, I didn't \"teach\" my DD2 like what I did to DD1 but DD2 seems to strive in this free play environment. Something I did was I talk to her A LOT (and this is where my DD1 missed out) and I think she learnt thru daily observations and daily activities such as during meal times, bathing times etc...tamarind:
Children who are raised by such mommies at home, are the luckiest children in the world. Because their mommies are capable of finding the best possible ways to teach their kids, like what Sunflower is doing
What can kids learn from maids ? Maids will probably sms or chat on their phone all day. Or they will just turn on the TV all the day. I have heard of kids who learn to speak English with a filipino accent from their filipino maid ! Their horrified parents have to send them for speech therapy. No offense to filipinos, but we are Singaporeans and we do not appreciate our kids speaking any other accent, right ? Of course British accent is the best lah.
My Indonesian maid is very good. She has been working in Singapore for more than 8 years, so she speaks English with a Singaporean accent. She is a very hardworking maid, does not chat on the phone at all, she is always wiping and cleaning all day long. Guess what my kids learn from her ? They find it fun to wipe and clean ! Fortunately they got bored of it very quickly.
I just read the front page news on the New Paper today, about a maid who slept with lover at home, when the kids were around. The girl then mimicked the acts of the maid and her boyfriend  -
New updates !
I received an email from an employer whose maid tried to seduce the tenant ! Check out the story here.

Argh! :x
My maid for 1year starting to create problem for me…
Before we get her, told her no handphone will be allowed and she agreed.
Now, almost every other day she’ll complaint to my elder son 7yo that she’s not happy because all she can’t have handphone!!
I talked to her (not scolding). I said that is what we agreed upon and how can you now request to own a handphone? I let her called home say once a month because she missed her child but like what other says she doesn’t appreciate but want More!
I hate to deal with ppl that don’t keep their promised. I guess I have to be in a lookout again for maids…
I am one of the lucky one who got my previous maid worked for me for 7 years! With the new maid just 1 year, perform not better than my previous but request for things…
Can I check if anyone of you hire ex-hkg maid before? Any problem so far?
Appreciate your feedback. -

This current one must be very experience. If she is not happy and you are not happy… if there is no solution… I really suggest that you let her go and find her 'greener pasture'. No point keeping her and yet cannot keep her heart. -
I have the same problem and my maid is already 3 years - she dont smile, dont talk to us unless it is necessary. She can go out once a month and has mobile phone. Actually there is not much to do in my house except to cook dinner, clean my apartment (very small one) and most imptly take bus to my child's school daily and take a bus back with her. My child stayed in school for lunch due to ECA and extra classes.
There is not much communication between us. Of cos I wish to fire her as her behaviour is really bad sometimes - however this is easy to say then done. My hubby travels due to work alot and I am working full time. It is difficult to train a new maid to take bus, look after my child.
Also, I feel that she is also bore at home most of the time and I can see that she is really looking after my child well.
Hands are tight and it is really frustating - my hubby is not willing to risk changing a maid without us at home most of the time. My only hope is one day she wants to go back to Indo.

Your maid is as lucky as mine. My maid also only do household, cooking and fetch my gal from childcare. The only diff is that I have a dog at home and don’t own a mobile phone.
The problem I’m facing she might have a boyfriend!!! Childcare teachers informed me this week that whenever she is there to pick up my gal, there is always this man that stand at a far distance (within their sight). Once my maid secure my gal in the pram and move on, he will turn around and walk ahead first. They monitored for a week before telling me and this week he is there 3 out of 5 days!!!
My immediate thought is to send her back to her agency. However to do that without asking her seems so cruel. So will be talking to her this weekend. Have thought of spying on her, but if they were to deny knowing each other just someone walking beside her, I also can’t do much.
My main concern is the safety of my gal. Next week I will have to try to finish work on time to pick up my gal myself and arrange for my mum to pick her up on those days that I can’t.
My hubby thought was to question her first. If really need to send her back if not keep her. He is hesitant about changing maid and going through the training, etc. all over again. He is worried that my gal will take a long while to adjust to a new maid as she is quite comfortable with this one. -

Actually my hubby sometimes drop by the school or go home without any warning... this is a form of spot check which i feel is necessary.
Therefore whenever my hubby is overseas; i will tell my child and the maid that I dont know when dad is coming back (even thought i know) - this will properly (hopefully) prevent my maid for making plans. -
Something brief to share…this morning my mum sent her maid (finished 6-year contract) to the airport. My mum is super ‘meticulous’ when comes to checking their luggage coz she has more than 20 yrs of experience, ha! But this morning, when the maid reached the airport, a friend was waiting for her to bid her farewell and gave her a big cake. My mum told her that the customs will not accept food entry, thus advised her to throw it away or eat it before boarding…and she got anxious, say she needs to go toilet and insists of bringing the cake with her. Of course, my mum got suspicious and demanded for the cake, she borrowed a knife from nearby cafe and cut it. My gosh, there’re 2 rolex watches and some jewellery pieces in the cake! Funny thing is they dun belong to my family…nevertheless my mum still called the police and let them investigate the case. These maids are so resourceful in settling their loot…never trust them too much no matter how many years they work for you.

Heard the cake story before. It’s interesting that they are still using such technique.
My sil had a indo maid for 4 years. They finally sent her back last year as I heard from my bil that it was triggered off as the maid loan $ to my teenage nephew. The maid would freely take $ from my nephew’s wallet to "repay her loan". It was meant to be a secret between her and my nephew. This got my bil very upset.
My sil told us that shortly after the maid left, they received a delivery receipt for the maid. This was for something she sent. The delivery receipt showed a picture of a BIG box that was sent from my sil’s house to the maid’s house. They got a shock when they saw that. They didn’t even realise there was such a box in their house previously and they wondered what was in the box. All these were done when they were not home. My sil also commented that some of her tonics appeared to be missing…
But recently, they heard that the same maid is coming back to Spore as dunno how true, someone did black magic on her and stole all her $. So she is back to Spore to work.
I dunno why my sil kept the maid for so long. Shortly after she joined, she brought the maid to Genting with them. Someone witnessed the maid beating my nephew who was probably around 5-6 yrs old then. Also, there was once that the maid beat my nephew until there was a very big bruise. She said that she did it in a fit of anger as my nephew was naughty (heard he will sometimes beat the maid)… But even then…
