[Clementi] Primary Schools

If u look at last year's stats, Clementi Pri has 270 total places, and out of this, 110 taken up in phase1. Whereas for Qifa which has 300 places, only 79 applied under phase 1. Why is this so? Phase 1 is for kids with siblings already in the school. Rightfully, this number should be more or less proportional to the school's population. :?


How did u compare these 2 school's results? I think Qifa had a top Indian student in year 2004. Is that how u conclude Qifa has better results than Clementi? And btw Clementi did have at least one student above 275 in year 2007. Whereas Qifa did so in 2004 and 2007.

Hi ruiruimum, do be careful how you use the data. For all we know, the schools may have dozens of students scoring 274. Is a school with 50 top students scoring 270-274 really worse than a school with 1 student scoring 293 while the highest amongst the rest did not exceed 270? The fact is, we need to look at the consistency by which the school is able to achieve those high scores. You should discount any school with less than 3 top scorers above 275 within 5 years as good data points in your consideration. The information publicly available from MOE does not give us the ability to drill down beyond that.

ya,i also think so,we cann’t think it’s a good school simply according to the amount of the top sudents.But as u know,only those famous school have more than 3 top students in past 5years,since my daughter maybe cann’t enroll in Nanhua,so it’s hard to make decision only can refer to those data.I think i 'll ask some friends for more information about the 2 schools later.
BTW:Maybe i’t s time fo us to consider move to those famous school:)

I am considering sending my boys to Nan Hua Pri since my hubby is an alumini of the school. However, (1) the school seems to have a rather low profile compare to schools like Henry Park, Nanyang Pri, ACS etc. Thus wonder how good it is and (2) my boys' Chinese Language is really bad. Wonder whether they will feel out of place in a SAP school or maybe I should send them to a more 'angmoh' school like ACS or SJI Junior.

This is indeed a good school. How good the school is, if the kids refuse to study, the results will not be good.

It take everyone to put in their effort and duty. Hope you can understand.

Angmo schools speaks mainly english, so are all these chinese sch.
If you have time, go to the school and find out. My kid is also from a non angmo sch, but they speak very good english. Their chinese and mandarin also perfect. Dont forget, China market is what the next generation will be targeting at. Once they are in the school, they will follow suit. Peers influences are greater than us.

No worries, look back to your old days in school, did you speak english or mandarin more or depends on who you mix?

Academic wise, Nan Hua is also on par. All depends very much on the child and family. We cant rely everything on the teachers or Home tution.
Very much is the contribution from family and peers.

Consider properly.

many parents would have love to be in your shoes..ie having priority to enrol in Nan Hua.
Unless you have church affiliations and guaranteed a place in ACS or SJIJ, it is safer to just go for Nan Hua. Unless of course Nan Hua is far away from where you stay and the distance is bugging you.

You may consider New Town Primary around Commonwealth area.They merged with Ghim Moh Primary & now offering single session! If not, Queenstown would be also another good option.
