改过自新 means turn over a new leaf after learning from a mistake made

What kind of things can be considered mistakes under this context? stealing, cheating in exam, gang fight should be ok. What about changed from being selfish and not caring about people around him?

My ds did the picture compo but he asked me this question.

My DD wrote something like she didnt study hard for her tests and got bad results and the teacher words changed her attitutes towards studying, and therefore, she \"turn over a new leaf\" and starts working hard for exam. This story can consider to be within the contents of 改过自新? I really pray hard..

In my opinion, I thought stealing or cheating would be more approprate, any view?

Would be better if she had said something like she 沉迷电脑游戏, after techer's reminder then 改过自新, 不再沉迷电脑游戏. However, don't think your DD's story will be considered 离题, maybe if they are more strict might consider that as 偏题. Don't worry too much - what's done is done, just hope for the best and do better for other subjects.

For compo, Q1 is 他的话使我改过自新。Q2 is about a bicycle theft. I chose Q1. I said went to an orphanage in sichuan and heard about this little girl's tragic past. I used to complain this not good enough and that not good enough when I am ver fortunate as I am rich and live in a big house. After listening to the girl's past I then realise that I am very fortunate and treasure what I have. parents say I've grown up, becoming more sensible. I also got say I will never forget this girl and what she said.(tragic past)

But isn't it a \"male\" 他 and not a \"female\" 他?

Normally, not so strict. this word can also use for female.

Seems that there are 2 very close answers which is 2 & 4.[/quote]I chose 4 also as the grandma say that she will be bored at home if she doesn't come and pick the stuff and she said that she come to pick up the stuff AS SHE COULD EXERCISE HER BODY TOO.I think 4 is correct

If I didn't remember wrongly, they were asking for the incorrect one.

The wrong reason was something like:

儿子给他的零用钱不足够。

Or if it is another question, I remembered my answer was something that included the words '勤劳'.
