Does anyone know if they are strict about kids in car seat when driving in australia? Or is it like here, you are supposed to but not enforced? Do you have to bring your own car seats or can rent from car rental company?

Not sure about the car seat rules in Australia but I always insist on car seats for children. You can rent from car rental company. If I recall correctly, it's around AUD10 each day and if you are renting the car for quite a number of days, they might even waive the car seat rental -

Australia has very strict rules on car seats. Rental of car seats are very affordable, but the seats are usually not comfortable. If my trip is longer than 5 days, or if we plan to do long distance driving, I always bring my own. Car seats n strollers does not count towards your luggage weight entitlement. -
We brought our own boosters along for our last trip to Aust. I believe they are pretty strict about car seats. In any case, I insist that my kids be strapped in even in Singapore so more so for overseas where the speed limits are higher and we are unfamiliar with their roads.
