I was thinking of The Alternative Story. I have seen their materials and I like them. They seem to be very strong in composition but the timing so far clashes with my son's other lessons.

I will still shop around, if really no choice then I would have to change some of my son's classes so he can go to TAS.

How about you? What centres have you tried and are they effective?

Is TAS material 'academic'? Where do you view their materials?

I've not seen TAS materials. My impression is they're pretty clever in the way they market their center, successfully generated a lot of interests in this forum. Seem to be expanding too rapidly though, hopefully teachers' standard can substain?

Then again, I better keep an open mind to all options since I've scouting high & low for an English enrichment the last few months 😉

My dd attended icreative for 2 years. I think icreative is more suitable for preschool. I am not too impressed with their primary level materials & have withdrawn her quite some time ago

      Hi sleepy,

Hmm, I don't really know what you mean by academic. :? But I found that their materials quite different from what I have seen at some centres and it provides quite a lot of vocabulary to help the children to write. They also focus on teaching children to write with a variety of sentence structures and teach them how to do something called 'building tension'. It seems good from what I have seen. I went down to their centre to view, I made an appointment to do so.

I don't know if the quality of all the teachers are good..I did not really ask about the teachers. Yes, I think they are smart in their marketing but I think they are also very good in their content knowledge from the way they answer the questions. One of my friends went for one of their workshops. She said that the teacher doing the talk really knows what she is talking about and has quite solid methods to teach writing.

But for myself, I am still shopping around as I think there could be other centres out there that are also good. So must look look see see first before deciding.

Have you seen The Write Place (at Jurong)? I read some forummers talking about it.

Sorrie... pardon me.. wat is TLL?

It is The Learning Lab. It is very well-known and many parents fight to get their children in. I think it is more suitable for students who are smart as they cater more for them. I am not sure if they are good but should be not bad lah with so many parents trying to get in.

They have a branch at United Square. It looks very professional.

            Hi XK,

Saw your posting that your gal used to attend LW United Sq. My gal also attending. Would like to find out from you on the timing you were being allocated during their half-yearly Parent-Teacher Meeting. Was it the same?

            TIA 🙂

My son (next yr K2) just assessed by LC, and he is posted to "Preparation for School", is this programme good?

Was hoping he can go to Liftoff programme, as I find his blending not so good. But the staffs said he would feel bored in liftoff since he already know how to read.

              Anyone here can advice.

How come your child is not going straight into the Sucess program?normally after Liftoff the next level is Sucess. \"Preparation for school\" is a new program?

Not too sure too, but is in the timeslots, there's indeed a \"preparation for school\" (PFS). It sounds good, as this is 4 terms course, it will allow my child to get prepared for P1, but I'm also worried on his blending and spelling.

They say \"success\" is usually for P1 students onwards.

TIA :)[/quote]She used to be on Sat afternoon class. As there was a change in the teacher mid way of the term, there wasn't a one to one parent-teacher meeting but a mass one. And for this reason, i did not attend cos i find it meaningless. And anyway, i already had plan to withdraw her as i do not really find the class enriching and worthwhile spending almost 2hrs there on a precious sat afternn.

                    jus my opinion.

Would appreciate if any one of you could pm your child’s details so that we can both enjoy some referee discounts?

Btw, any feedback on LCentral Tampines branch?
