      Hi All,

No, I didnt buy the my home tutor series cos i thought doing assessment books will probably be much better. at least my children will get to practise on paper like in their tests and exams. Looking at the computer probably wouldn't help them - it feels more like watching tv...

To janice_0950: my boy is currently under a math home tutor, and so far so good with his results. but i live quite far from tampines so i'm not sure if his tutor will want to go to your place for tuition. i can give you the tutor's contact if you want. otherwise, you could request for a tutor from a tuition agency like what i did. but be careful with the tuition agency that you request from cos many are not doing a proper job. tuition centres are so expensive...hope this helps. 🙂

For english - you can consider centres in East point at Simei like Morris Alle or British council in Tampines Mall. For Maths, there is Maths arena in tampines. all these centre are pricey.

Have you tried Maths arena? Which programme did you enrol? Is it good?

Never tried before as it is far from my house. So, logistic problem.

            Hi,

I personally think that nowadays, parents are both working parents where we would like to coach our children as well but sometimes, we might not be in the better position to provide the best guidance in terms of picking up the correct language.

Overall, as most of the parents are well educated but how much you can pass the knowledge as the education is changing every years.

Moreover, it is not just Singapore is impact by this education trend, you can look around for the other countries. The kids are also impact by the education.

Yes, I agreed that kids does not need so much enrichment that would impact their development but in the way, it is also one of the style to make them to interact with people. It would depends on the perspective view of the parents.

It very much depends on what is done during the tuition lessons...

                Hi all,
My DS going P1 next year. Based on what mrswongtuition suggested, he probably can only count his numbers 😢

Been trying to look for enrichment centres but realized that it may not be an ideal move (his childcare teachers fedback that DS focused more on friends in classes, haiz). So decided to engage a private tutor instead... does anyone know what's the market rate for private tutors?

For P1 tutor, rates vary according to their experience and qualifications.

                  Undergrad/non-grad PT tutor: $15 - 20/hr
                  Grad (PT): $15 - 25/hr
                  Grad (FT): $15 - 30/hr
                  Ex-sch teacher, Current sch teacher: $25 - 50/hr

BTW, for school teachers, please make sure they are NIE trained. Not those 'relief teachers' who claim they are ex-teachers. It's totally different because they basically baby-sit students, not prepare materials and teach.

                    Hello,

Thank you mrswongtuition for pointing out this common ‘trap’. There are quite a few tutors who claim that they are ex-teachers, but in fact, they have basically taught as relief teachers, and are not nie-trained at all.

In fact, one should probably sense something amiss if someone who claims to be an ex-teacher is charging undergrad/grad rates. To answer your question about the market rate, our nie-trained teachers are charging $40 to $50 for primary school. And yes, we specifically state that they must be nie-trained before they can identify themselves as a teacher.

Just a suggestion for people with children in K2 preparaing for P1,

                        and looking for having enrichment.

Why dont u try Tony Buzan ? If kid is in K2, u could sign up for their Power Learning Camp, which actually to prepare the kid for p1. It's only a 5 day programme, and to me its a great programme cause they not only basic academics. But what is covered are the values and the right attitudes towards learning. It think the right mindset for P1 preparations are the most important.

U could then proceed to sign up for their english / maths course and they'll automatically deduct the course fees for you such that by the end of the one year enrichment, the fees u pay for the Power Learning Camp is nil !

My son was there cause the dad refused to let me help him, cause nowadays the way they teach their Maths is so completely different from my times. And my hubby do not want me to confuse our son 😛 + he wants our little guy to have the right solid foundation for the subject. :celebrate:
