hi,
yes i agree that exam papers are essential especially when it's nearing the exams. need to get our kids used to the exam conditions.
but i think that assessment books are also important because we need to drill them on the basics first. if not, they will lose their confidence if they try the exam papers first.
just my 2 cents worth.

RE: All About Piano Lesson Costs
hi,
i would say taking jmc is useful for music appreciation purposes. my children went for jmc too at yamaha. i enrolled them to see if they like music or playing the piano. it's only after they said they were interested that i got a private piano teacher to prepare them for grade 1 onwards.
individual lessons is better if you want to prepare them for exams, but if you want see if they are interested in music, then group classes at yamaha should be fine.
hope this helps.

hi 3boysdad,
my children have a piano teacher now. you might want to consider.
and yes, having a teacher who forgets about her lessons is quite irresponsible.

RE: Yamaha Junior Music Course (JMC) - Discussion
Hi,
Yes, totally agreed that it's the teacher and not the school that matters. but i've had friends who sent their children to cristofori and ossia, and came back with less than satisfactory feedback. in the end, they decided on a private teacher instead. personally, i sent my children to yamaha for music appreciation course, but when they were preparing for exams, we went for a private teacher too, and she prepared my children for all aspects of the exams, aural included.
let me know if you would like the teacher's contact. will pm it to you.

RE: All About Preparing For Primary One
hi Suaku_mum,
wow, enrichment classes are so popular nowadays. but it's kinda worrying that your son is not interested in math or money because he will need to know how to buy food from the school canteen on his own come next year.
if that's the case, maybe you could try looking for a home tutor instead? at least it's better to give him a headstart and prepare him for what is to come soon. at least he wouldnt be in a big shock then - having to juggle an entirely new environment and lots of books. personally, i used MyPrivateTuition (http://myprivatetuition.bravehost.com) to help me find tutors for my children. or you could try the other tuition agencies as well.
hope this helps.

RE: All About Preparing For Primary One
hello Rockdiva,
for multiplication and division, you could start off with simple examples like dividing many things into equal portions, or putting things into groups of 5 for instance. for primary 1, the knowledge needed for multiplication and division is quite basic so i dont think there's a need to send her for enrichment classes now. for multiplication, it's within 40, and for division, they only need to know how to divide things pictorially.
regarding writing skills, you might want to start off by encouraging her to read kids fiction first? that would at least help with her grammar and vocab before she goes on to grasp the more advanced techniques of writing such as sentence structure. Personally, i didnt send my kids for writing classes until they were in primary 3, and they still did well.
hope this helps.
