24hr-mum:
All papers are full papers in P3, except for the 1st exam for Science. But my DD also had full papers in P2 SA1 and SA2, think they changed from this year. but i personally think it's better to scrap exams so kids are less stressed, and i get a better feel of their \"true\" abilities cos they are assessed all the time. kids that age tend to be quite careless so my DD didn't do very well in P2, not becos she didn't understand her work but she made lots of careless mistakes, esp for maths.sorry, didnt realise i got replies in this thread till i chk. i had set the email alert notification of any replies to my post but sometimes i get the email alert, sometimes i dont.
vem137 - thanks for telling me abt the p3. for yr end SA, esp for math, is it a full paper like other sch? ie 44 question that type? so far p1 no exam. p2 sa is a modifiied paper wif few questns only
mdm dinah - st nic isnt stressful as u thot. in the sense it has no exams in p1. for p2, no mid yr. only oral test. for year end, just sa2 and it isnt a full paper. but they hv some form of assessment for all terms. based on daily wksheet whc is worse becos u dont know whc pc of daily work will be counted. ok. eng - all spelling tests are counted. plus some segments of stellar learning units whc is classwk. plus show n tell. ch- all spelling counted. plus a chinese test every 2 wks or so once every 2 units of chinese textbk are covered. the ch spelling is 12 sentences hor, not 12 words or short phrases. but these helped in their year end revision and prepare them for compo in p3
math is based on impromptu test. u cant prepare also. so to me, its worse than hving sa which is known to u when they test. -
oh i dont mean the $180 is what my driver charges. i was commented on the bus fare mentioned by emelyn.
but her cracks only show in p2 sa2 eg only in end p2.
if she had exam in p1, i would hv known her cracks earlier and got more time to fix it
this sa2 eg, my p2 girl for eng got perfect score EXCEPT compre. lost all 6.5 to compre and thus got 53.5/60
sigh…the sch does not much compre n i suspect dont teach much maybe…and i thot compre was sthg depend on luck n only knew lately there are some skills so i didnt drill her earlier… -

same problem with my elder girl. she also lost a lot of marks in compre in P2 SA1. when i spoke to the teacher, she said that all the girls facing this problem so they intend to beef up teaching of compre. dunno in the end how much teaching of compre they did, but i find my girl's compre improved this yr. once a while i do disagree with the teacher's marking, esp for compre (eng and chinese). it's quite :stupid: cos i can't explain to my girl why her answer is not acceptable and the teachers also can't give a good explanation. so i also dunno what to do under such scenario...

Hi 24-hr mum,
Do you know whether the girls can be picked up after school dismissal from the side gate linked to HDB Blk 171?
How does your girl commute to SNG from Bishan? Is it as fast as within 20 mins too?
Dinah -
for any gate (main or side), parents are not allowed into the sch compound, the security guard at main gate or the auntie at side gate will stop u. parents are supp to wait outside (together wif a congregation of maids, grannies and mummies)and the child will hv to walk to the gate and look for u.
if u give excuse like u want to go bkshop buy things, its better to enter by main gate cos at least the security may let u register in their bk n let u go in. the side gate auntie ever asked me to re-enter by the main gate n i scolded her cos there is no way cos both gates are not linked! they are not on the same road - i m talkg abt current holdg sch. there was antoehr i managed to enter wif the bkshop excuse (i really wanted to buy things)
by of cos u cant everyday use the same excuse lah.
in the am, my hubby drive me girl, park at 176, walk her to the side gate.
in the pm, my girl takes sch bus (not the sng one. its her childcare sch bus who happen to pick sng girls too) sch bus quite long 30min includg 15min waiting for kids from all levels to be dismissed. but sng bus is faster cos they only pick/send bishan. my bus uncle go amk too -
Hi 24-hr mum,
Thanks for the quick reply! You have been a great mentor
Can you give me some tips on what is the ideal time to arrive at sch gate (be it main or side gate) to drop the girl? I'm just afraid to get into unnecessary jams.
Thanks thanks! -
kiasu parents arrive by 7pm or 6.55am i think. but some arrive 7.10am
bell rings 7.25am. give the child 10min to walk to classrm and to gathering plc. so i supp latest by 7.15am? i think arrive by latest 7.10am safest. sch bus arrive 6.50am -
got anyone stay in kovan, bartley, area and their girl in stnic? how early does the sng bus arrive? how long they reach hm from sch?

Hi, which is nearer to classrooms ? Side gate or main gate ?kiasu parents arrive by 7pm or 6.55am i think. but some arrive 7.10am

Is the main gate very jammed up in the morning ? -
to drop at main gate, its illegal parking. but many parents take chance but the child must know how to open door n walk to main gate n follow the crowd to the classrm, plus look out for cars (tho got rdblock but can hv teachers car) at zebra crossg.
side gate is safest. but risk of getting summoned if cant find a lot.
but we prefer side gate cos it lead to basketball court. no car at all. as the curr plc is a small sch, make no diff in terms of distance to classrm. but for perm plc, main gate nearer to classrm
