      Hi Full.Cream,

NUSH has her own French and Japanese teachers. Students are encouraged to take the in-house modules - which is considered an elective module, hence can be counted into the student’s semestral grade (CAP) if the student does well. As it is incorporated into the timetable, there is less issue of timetable clash esp. when students also take elective and enrichment modules.

There is an additional charge of $100 per month, on top of the school fees, when a student takes up in-house 3rd language. I believe students who choose to travel to the MOE language centres (where taking 3rd lang is free) will also need to pay transport fee, so cost-wise it is about the same, hence most students choose to do 3rd lang in-house.

I do not know which is more popular in NUSH.

It is 3 hrs per week for the 3rd lang.

The Humans system of NUSH has changed a lot since my year one days. Now its considered as part of the English curriculum for the year 1 and 2s, then it'll be a subject on its own during year 3 & 4. I'm not too sure about the text though, it should vary year by year

You are so lucky, Full.Cream :). Someone just wrote a piece on studying Literature in NUS:
                http://nushscollegetalk.blogspot.com/2010/11/studying-literature-in-nus-high-account.html

They are doing Intro to Lit, Reading Narnia, Drama, Animal Farm, The Novel I, Novel II, Modern Poetry, Postcolonialism, Gender Studies. All the details are in the url above. Quite rigorous curriculum, I must say. The best thing is, very few students take Literature in the senior years so you can have all the attention of the teachers (may be like, 1 teacher to a handful of students :))

For the third Language option form - should we be submitting it separately, not online?

                    Hi all

I’ve applied for RI as the 1st choice for my DS thro S1. I’ve also separately applied for NUSH.

Since NUSH results will be published on 15th Dec, if my DS is selected by NUSH, will he also get an offer from S1 posting on 22nd Dec?

                      Hi all

I've applied for RI as the 1st choice for my DS thro S1. I've also separately applied for NUSH.

There are only 170 vacancies of which 90% (latest NUSH web info, previous year only 85%) had been awarded through DSA. There are only 17 position left for PSLE placements, not many actually. I believe the competition will be greater because even the top girl from RGPS (my girl's GEP classmate) is swapping for NUSH. My girl got her placement through DSA despite on waiting list. Some of her classmates are seriously considering NUSH even though there are already accepted by the top girl IP school. Things are changing rapidly as NUSH are getting more acceptable and well-known. Also the radically off-balance sex ratio might be another consideration if all things are equal (this, IMHO only).

Although NUSH is conducting in-house placement, and I believe the result will be fed back to MOE after 15 Dec. That will automatically update the MOE S1-Posting system of the available positions and vacancies. To anwser your qns, if he get accepted by NUSH, he will not be in the S1-Posting anymore.

                        Thanks Walterp.

How sure are you about these insider figures of 10%, 15%…at NUSH? Do they really reveal the actual numbers? (I did see the NUSH admission site about the 90% admission thro DSA)

With last yr’s COP of 257 and with probably some of the successful DSA students seeking out of NUSH, I’m wondering what are my DS’s chances of making it to NUSH, with his score of 265!
