Hi,
I think the forum would have very diverse views… appreciate advice.
With score of 239 - aiming for VS (COP 245) as first choice; This has the risk of loosing the 2nd choice - Chong Chen Main (COP 236) and 3rd choice - Anglician (COp 240), worth it?
Thanks in advance. -

Hi et1967,
I think you will need to take a test which cost $20 and if you do well you will be given ESIP.ApronMama:

Yes...He will be eligible for ESIP.
Your son has 253, is he offered EESIS ? I thought EESIS cut off is 260 this year ?
Any one who meets the cut off of EESIS this year, but decided not to go to an independent school in Sec 1, but subsequently goes to IP school in Sec 3, will automatically be granted the ESIP, and does not need to take the test.
EESIS : for Sec 1 admission to independent schools.
ESIP : for Sec 3 admission to IP schools.
This is my understanding.[/quote]Yes, he's offered, and with 3rd language option. He scored 2 A* 2 A. Still feeling a waste if dont choose IP school. Actually was advised to put Dunman as 1st choice (think very slim), then CH as 2nd choice. Should I follow this advise? -

There is NO RISK of you losing your 2nd or 3rd choice at all. The placement is by merit, you will get posted to the school even if you place it as 6th choice as long as your PSLE T-score is higher than the school's COP this year. Hope this clarifies.Hi,

My personal opinion. Both schools are good. But some points for you to consider. My daughter got 244, and we are staying at choa chu kang, just 5mins walk to Bukit Panjang High School. We got headache about choosing Nan Hua or BPHS as our 1st choice.
Anybody good advice pls.....
1) Nan Hua is a SAP school. I believe all students must do Higher Chinese as I noticed that in their 2011 Sec 1 booklist, there is no textbooks for Chinese as 2nd Lang. Is your daughter strong in Chinese? If no, then it will be a challenge for her. You may want to call the school and ask whether there is Chinese as 2nd Lang for those who cannot cope with Chinese.
2) Being a SAP school, I don't think there are students from other races, unless these students take Higher Chinese. Do you want your child to mix with Chinese race students only or you prefer a school which she can interact with other races?
3) Nan Hua do not have NA or NT students but BPHS has. Some parents prefer not to have NA or NT students in the school (which i don't understand why). So you may want to consider this point too.
4) Another factor you should consider is what subjects the school offer to its Sec 3 students. Most schools will encourage students to do A Maths or Pure Science(s). However not all students are good in maths or science. Some students may prefer other subjects like Literature, Geography, Arts, Design and Technology, etc.
According to the website of both schools, I noticed that in Nan Hua, it is compulsory to do A Maths and at least 2 Pure Sciences. Hence, what will happen if a student fail his Maths/ Sciences in Sec 2? Does the student still need to do A Maths or Pure Sciences in Sec 3? Won't it be a nightmare to the students? I understand that in another school, students who fail Maths in Sec 2 still takes A Maths in Sec 3. However if they fail their A Maths in Sec 3, they will be asked to drop. I think this is ridiculous as the student has wasted one year studying something they don't like.
On the other hand, BPHS is more flexible as it offers combined Science to the weaker students. Also A Maths is not compulsory.
Hope the info helps you. -

I think should have no problem to get into CHS with 251. -

This is however a little risk. if the COP for CCM is 239 and there are only a few vacancies left and you have put CCM as 4th choice, then you will lose out to other students with 239 and has put CCM as 1st or 2nd or 3rd choice.

Just curious - why do u put Anglican as 3rd choice, after CCM? If you can't get into CCM, it is unlikely that you can qualify for Anglican.
