      Callie,

My girls were transferred in to ATS from neighbourhood primary school, both starting from P3 in ATS.
My dd1 successfully got her transfer immediately the following day after we put in the application (when she was in P2, going to P3). I understand that it is quite difficult to transfer to join P2, as there is usually no vacancy in P2. My dd2 has to wait one year before she is transferred to P3. In fact, P3 could be a better time to transfer as they will usually reshuffle the classes in P3, so there is less established groups in the class and thus easier for the children transferring in to fit-in.
And yes - you have to inform the school after every 6 months that you are still interested, or else they will remove the name from their namelist.
In terms of criteria, I think different schools have different criteria, but unless the child has special talent that the school is looking for, it is very much based on their academic results.
      Hope the info helps.

Hi littlecloud, care to share, were both your gals' successful transfer to ATS purely based on their academic results or did they have special talents or do any CCA that ATS is looking for? Thanks in advance.
      Callie Tan:

      Thanks for the info.

I am just puzzled why they have to get us to submit our names every 6 months... it's like not a very fair way to me. I hope to transfer my girl to ATS in P2 so that it will not be too painful for her to leave her friends... easier for her to settle down in the new environment...

any other parent care to share their experience in this aspect for ATS?
      Hi Callie,

I'm in the same situation as you. My gal starting P1 in MCS but thinking of transferring her to ATS which is nearer to my hse.

I registered her at phase 2b (PV) at ATS but unsuccessful during 1km ballot hence placed her at MCS at phase 2c.

Hopefully my gal will do well in her P1&2 so that we can request for transfer.

Did you try register your gal at ATS?

No I did not try because it's totally hopeless to get in ATS as I didn't even do PV like you... so now have to be on waiting list lor

        Hi kerbaya,

The schools don’t usually reveal their criteria for transfer. But they do ask for your reason for transfer when you fill up the application form.
My guess is that my 2 girls got into Ai Tong based on their academic results (because I did not indicate any special talent then) and also I had stated that I wanted a more Chinese environment and culture.

Yes I also stated tat I prefer a co-ed school with a more chinese environment and culture...

Did you attempt to register your children for ATS in any of the phases initiallY?

            Thanks littlecloud and Callie.

I also stated the same reasons as both of you did in my request.

Sigh, can you imagine my disappointment when my gal couldn't get in...all my time spent in PV wasted. 😢

Hi all, thought to share the updates I got on the move… but nothing is firmed yet… tried to ask school but they refused to confirm, just claim they don’t know…

The info I got is ATS will move to a holding school in AMK area for P3-6 (am session) and the P1 & 2 (pm session) would stay in the Sin Ming campus while they upgrade… Probably move in 2012… we shall wait for school to confirm this next year…

It's quite unlikely that the lower and upper sessions will be split in different temporary place as it would make administration very difficult. This is in terms of teachers' meeting, general office matters and other logistics arrangement. Coupled with that, safety would be top consideration when comes to upgrading. It's quite impossible allow P1 and P2 to stay in an upgrading-in-progress environment.

I was also told that we need to update the registration every 6 months. However, I didn't do that (ie I put my child on wait-list at beginning of P2 and did nothing after that) and at the end of term 4, ATS called me to offer her a place for P3 for the following year. When I went to register her there, they were very surprised that she was in a different school from the one I had listed on the wait-list form (she changed school at beginning of Term3 but not to ATS). Still, it was no problem at all and everything went smoothly.

What criteria ATS looks for? Prob special skills or good academics. I know of four of my child's former class/schoolmates who transferred to ATS at P3 at the same time as her. None had special skills but all were placed in one of the top three classes and have done well enough to remain in the three classes in P4.

The question is, does ATS fill up every vacancy available? From what I understand, MOE's guideline is a max of 30 students in each class for P1 and P2 and max of 40 students from P3 onwards. Hence, there are more vacancies at P3 as the classes get bigger. My child's class numbered 42 at P3 and 32 at P4. I am sure there are still many students on the wait-list at P4 onwards, just wondering why they are not filling up the classes.

I only stated one reason - school closer to home. 😄

I did not attempt to register my child at ATS for any of the intial phases. I don't think it makes a difference nor get you any preference. Someone I know even got an MP to write a referral letter and it didn't make a difference.

I suppose you may want to include more information of your child such as music achievements, good results progress in kindergarten and positive remarks (academic and character). This will make your application stand out from the rest.

                      Good luck 🙂
