NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)
-
Hey walterp,
I've found the answer. From NUSH's website:
17. How would I know if I am accepted by NUS High School?
For Phase 1, successful applicant will be notified and given a Letter of Offer after the Math & Science Camp by 3 Sept 2010.
For Phase 2, successful applicant will be notified and given a Letter of Offer 2 weeks after the registration closing date.
So it is a letter of offer. -
juz called the school. the admission office told me that , the kid will receive the letter of offer on 15 dec if he/she is accepted. the school will give the applicant up to 22 Dec 5pm to decide whether to accept. if the school does not hear from the applicant by then, it will take it that the applicant is not accepting the offer and the place will be given to someone on the waiting list.
but i didn't ask her , what about MOE side? will MOE system work such that if the child is offered NUSH, then he/she will not be offered any of the schools in the 6 choices? but i doubt this is the way how the system works, judging from what the lady in the admission office told me.....
aiyoh, why MOE can't be more transparent on all these so that we don't have to spend so much time guessing what is going to happen

Does any one with DSA offer have the MT option form and the Orientation form attachments send by NUSH? If so can please please pm me?
The email from them had gone into my spam mail and i only saw it today , but there were no attachments as mentioned in the mail. I spoke to the office they said they would resend but no email from them yet. I am going on vacation from Monday and wont be back b4 the deadline date of 10th DEc, hence the hurry....

I hear some rumours that NUS high students can skip 1st year in NUS, which means they only need 2 years to get a basic degree. Is it true? Can someone please enlighten me? :?

Hi sall,
No, students do not skip 1st Year in NUS. However, it is a well known fact that being affiliated with NUS, NUS High students (esp those who are taking accelerated modules) are allowed to take NUS modules when they are in high school - some take them in NUS High Year 5 or 6, a few exceptionally talented in Math/Science subjects can take the relevant NUS modules when they are in NUS High Year 3 or even Year 2. Hence by the time they graduate from NUS High, they would have taken many NUS modules and can proceed to take higher modules (say, 2nd or 3rd Year NUS modules) if they choose to proceed on to NUS. It is possible for such students to take shorter than 2 years to get a degree, or get double degrees within 3 years. -
Hi Mjl, thanks for your reply. So I suppose only a very small % of students are allowed to do that. The rest will go thru the normal planned course and will not be doing any accelerated modules?

Hi sall,
Any students, even those not from NUS high can be exempted from first year modules by just taking an exemption tests the university organised. If one do well for that test, he will then be exempted from those modules and proceed to year two modules. It is not too difficult to get exempted. Many year 1 modules are just slightly more difficult than A levels but you need to read up yourselves. -
Hi,
Anyone has any idea what is the rough cop for this year entry to NUS high?thanks
Leanne
