right choice, the teachers really go extra miles to help student on academy and self confident. DD is one of the good sample, she just finished her O level, prior to O level the teachers had identified the weak subjects and coahing one by one after school or even during weekend. Furthermore she had again confident and never had stomach ache during examination that she had it since P1.

        Dear all,

the Chinese Standard in NCH is pretty high. For students who are not taking HCL, they will sit for GCE "O" Level Chinese Language Paper in June holiday and mid July, and result will be out in Aug. For those who do not successfully obtaining A1, they have to re-take the Year End O level CL Paper.

The reason being is that many students have successfully got their A1 in their 2nd attempt. So the school wants students to get as many A1 as possible.

Also, be prepared that graduating students will need to "burn" their holiday break for endless remedials and extra lessons. Can be pretty stressful. However, if the student is able to pull through it, the result should not be too bad.

As for the COP, it will definitely more than 231+. It wonโ€™t be a surprise that the COP for 2011 will be 240+. Currently, in North-East area, NCHS is the only band 1 sch, and SAP school. Parents whose child got COP of 230+, please be mentally prepared. I know many parents have gone to the school and asked to be on the waiting list. The schoolโ€™s niche in CCA are performing Arts. P6 students who took up performing arts as CCA in pri sch may have an added advantage, however, COP still comes 1st.

I dont think COP will go up (from 231 to 240+) by so much!

If I am not mistaken, NCHS's L1B5 based on 2009 GCE 'O' level was 10.9. Their SAP status will be accorded from 2012, so currently (2010) they are not considered as a SAP school.
From Jan 2012, their intake will be for Express course only.

Agreed, most likely up a few points (maximum=4?)from last year's COP of 231 and very unlikely to go beyond 240 for 2011 Sec 1 intake.

Hi Vanilla Cake, my understanding of SAP schools is that their HCL standard is very high and they only take in Express stream. May I know any other difference between SAP schools & non-SAP schools and what is the advantage of going to a SAP school? TIA.

                Hi wing98,

The existing 10 SAP sec schools are:
                1. Anglican High
                2. Catholic High
                3. CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School
                4. Chung Cheng High School (Main)
                5. Dunman High
                6. Hwa Chong Institution
                7. Maris Stella High
                8. Nan Hua High
                9. Nanyang Girls' High
                10. River Valley High

Generally, SAP Sec schools provide a conducive environment for the students to understand and learn more about the Chinese language and culture. It helps to groom bilingual and bicultural students. However, do take note that in some SAP schools, you are allowed to take NCL instead of HCL. Speaking from my personal experience, I think that studying in a SAP school helps me to improve the standard of my Chinese.

Thanks for sharing, Vanilla cake. Any idea does Anglican High offers NCL?

                    Hi wings98,
                    You are welcome. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am not sure about Anglican High. I went there for their \"Open house\" when in fact it was actually their \"Sports Open house\" in 2008 when I was a P6 student. The other 3 SAP schools that I had visited were Chung Cheng High School (Main), Nan Hua High and River Valley High in 2008. The student guide in Chung Cheng High School (main) provided quite a lot of useful information. One of which was that not all students over there were required to take HCL. I didn't ask about HCL during the open house visit to Nan Hua High and River Valley High.

Another aspect to take about SAP schools is that selected SAP schools offer http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11218. Next year, I will have 12 BSP students in my Sec 3 class although I am not in BSP.

My younger sister is in a SAP primary school and also not all students are required to take HCL.

                    Thanks.

Based on the results for 2009 GCE \"O\" level exams, only 12 schools attained band 1. It was a remarkable achievement for Nan Chaiu High to improve from band 9 in 2004 to band 1 in 2009 (6 years) and hope that they will continue to produce such stellar results. ๐Ÿ˜„

With their newly accorded SAP status in 2012, they will become the only school in North-East area to admit students for express course only.Currently the other nearby Sec schools admit Express, NA and NT students:
Hougang area: Bowen Sec, Holy Innocents' High, Hougang Sec, Monfort Sec, Paya Lebar Methodists Girls (Sec), Serangoon Sec, Xinmin Sec, Yuying Sec.

Punggol area: Greendale Sec, Punggol Sec, Edgefield Sec.

Serangoon area: Peicai Sec, Serangoon Garden Sec, St Gabriel's Sec, Zhonghua Sec.

Seng Kang area: CHIJ St. Joseph's convent, Compassvale Sec, North Vista Sec, Pei Hwa Sec, Seng Kang Sec

I think their COP should raise by a few points for 2011 Sec 1 intake and then further more due to inclusive of HCL bonus points for 2012 Sec 1 intake.Their COP should hit close to 240 for 2012 Sec 1 intake and so it is very unlikely that COP for 2011 will be 240+.

Just my 2 cents as Nan Chiau High will definitely be one of the 6 choices for Sec school selection for my younger sister who will be taking PSLE 2011 exams.

I heard that the school fee for Nan Chiau High is $20+.

Why so expensive? Government school only 10+.

                        :?
