How was your boy’s first day at school?

The first day was good, but I am very upset with the bus service. I don't think it's a good policy to be an hour late to drop off and not at least text message the very nervous and stressed group of parents who are wondering where the heck their kids are. It was handled very poorly.

Did you not receive the SMS from Alan Bus Service? I got one in the morning informing 15 minutes late pick up and another one at around 2pm informing 20 minutes late return from school.....Guess being the 1st week and 1st day of school, there will be hiccups here and there. Not to worry - i believe the children are being taken care of in the school bus. Also, if there is anything, you can always call up the school bus officer in-charge.

Btw, Which bus no. your son is in?

I got an SMS at 4:50pm saying the bus would be 20 minutes late. I don't know why they would SMS so late-- I was SMSing people all day with no issues of delay. As for what bus number, I really don't know anymore. His card says bus 3 but the bus that dropped him off yesterday was bus 2.

There is nothing worse than the anxiety of your P1 child's bus being an hour late (the first bus I have ever let him take on his own). I was waiting and worrying at that bus stop for the majority of that hour. I called, and they said the bus would be 20 minutes late. 20 minutes is a lot shorter than an hour.

They really did not handle the first day very well at all.

So finally the day had arrived 04th January 2011, 1st day of the formal schooling for my DS1.


....

So overall lovely experience and will be remembered for very long time. :celebrate:

So far I am quite impressed by how organized the school has been. Even though it's the first week, and I am sure the staff has their hands full, they are extremely prompt at answering questions.

Is it the penmanship book? Remembered that my gal's handwriting was so \"bad\" that the FT always put a little comments at the bottom of the page:\"Good effort; try writing neatly the next round.\" :lol:

I am quite surprised as well as happy with the progress of the studies after more than 2 weeks... the school has been teaching in good speed specially with Maths :celebrate:

Glad to hear that you are happy with the school and I am sure your darling must be enjoying himself in the school too :please:

My gal is enjoying school too and adapting herself to the new class. As now in P3 the class size is bigger - 40 as compares with 30 in P1 & P2. As ususal her 1st comment in the 1st week was: \"The class is very noisy!\" :rotflmao: BUt into the 3rd week, I guess all has been settled and she already \"getting used\" to the big noisy class.

Am very thankful that the FT & Subject teachers issued letter giving us the e-mail (Don't think that was being practised during her P1 & P2 time). Have started corresponding with them and teachers are very open to feedbacks and suggestions. It's a blessing to have dedicated teachers around that take the time to reply the e-mail or to give us a call to update the progress. I am sure it will benefit the child in the academic preparation as well as their characteristic development.

Hope that more parents of CPS will come o board to this forum to share and to encourage one another on. I believe this forum will grow with more parents sharing thier views and encouragements. Cheers :dancing:

Can imagine your feelings while waiting.

I remembered the 1st week of sch in 2010 too. I was heavily pregnant then. I waited anxiously with the super huge belly until I had leg cramps. I didn't dare to move to a bench which was further away, just in case while I moved away the bus came.

Did you call them, while waiting?
I had the bus co. tel no, as well as Eileen's hp no in my hp phonebook, so I called both numbers several times. The first time I called, they said the buses were still in school (I waited for 20min already) because it was a bit chaotic and some kids were not at the correct buses yet.

Next few times I called, the bus company said/ claimed that it was the school teachers who were holding the kids back so there was nothing the bus drivers could do. Apparently the teachers make sure all the kids are there before releasing them to the buses or something.

I think in the end, ds1 did arrive almost 1h late too!
