I dun feel that is the right way to do lor. I mean, if a child genuine staying near to the school who wanted a place there, by renting a place (not actually staying there), you are 'robbing' him/her of a chance of getting a place.

sorry, just a thought cos I would be very angry if my boy can't get a place there because other parents use other method to get in. unless I'm staying in the rented house lah.:!:

      Miracle child,

when is your boy p1 registration?
I am also thinking of renting a place near our top choice school and actually staying there of course. Not sure if this can work.

I think if you rent a place and not stay there but change your IC address to this place, you will be in trouble with the police anyway.

Any good schools near Changi Prison??

My husband and I are currently staying together with my in-laws (and my son). My in-laws have expressed the desire to shift near our relatives, and hence I am thinking of enrolling my child in a school within 1km of their new place. Since my husband and I frequently work overseas, we will likely have to register in laws as my son's guardian.

I am currently going for interview to be a parent volunteer in that school (Phase 2B). Balloting is required for Phase 2B (for those further than 1km). Can I ask, if I become successful as a parent volunteer, and I enrol my son into this school using my in-law's address, do I still qualify under the \"below 1km\" or \"1-2km\" slot?

Hope my question is clear! Thank you!! πŸ™‚

As long as you are registering your child under a guardian's address, your distance qualification will never be under 1km even if the guardian's address is 10m away from the school. It will be at least between 1-2km.

Distance qualification applies at all stages (Phase 2B onwards), regardless of whether you are a PV or community contributor. However, it comes into play only when the number of applicants exceed the number available places.

          Hope this clarifies.

Sorry, forgot to reply to you.

            According to http://www.moe.edu.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/required-documents/:

\"J: For Registration using address of yet-to-be completed property

An original Sales and Purchase document is required if the address of a yet-to-be completed property is used for registration. A copy of this document is to be retained by the school. Parents using the yet-to-be completed property address for registering their child in a school of choice must move into the new property within two years of the child’s entry into Primary One. For this purpose, the date of commitment by the developer in T.O.P (Temporary Occupation Permit) must not be later than 31 Dec 2011.
            \"

So as long as you can show proof of your commitment to purchase, and if your property's TOP is before your child enters Primary 3, you should be able to use that address.

Hi .. I also have a question. Is there any minimum period that one needs to stay near a school. what about people who wish to rent a place close to school to improve chances and also allow the child to get used the Primary school environment and then move back to old house. eg. registration is in June 09 for 2010 P1?

              thanks

Thank you for the reply! I think I am clearer now.

On another note, if I have another property that will TOP the year my child goes to Pri One, what will happen if I sell it within one year of my child’s school?

You should not be using that address for the P1 registration since that is not your primary home address.

Actually this is very confusing!! πŸ™‚ Oh dear, please bear with me...

My in-laws are shifting out, and we bought another place (TOP in 2012) for ourselves. Which address should we use now?? The current one (that I am staying in), or the one to be TOP-ed, which I may sell in future? Can't be use all of them right?

You should use the address that you are staying at and intend to stay at after your child enters P1. If you are found to not be staying at your registered address, your child can be taken out of the school and sent to any other school which has a vacancy. This has happened in the past.

Jet Li take up citizenship here and move to Bukit Timah. So, this will grant him citizen benefit such as priority for P1 registration to top primary schools. Wonder what in return he will contribute to the nation … 😎
