Zoo Phonics Card - Worth investing?
-
Hi
I am quite interested in the zoo phonics cards A-Z with animals like this
http://www.zoo-phonics.jp/english/zoophonics.html
Do you think it's worth investing in a set? Please share your thoughts.
For those who has already bought the cards, how much did you pay for and where did you buy it from?
Was it useful for your children?
Thanks for sharing! -

i got (bought) mine when I enroled my kid in Zoophonics - pack cost \"special price for members only\" $95. I felt that if you are enroling your kid in a phonics programme that use \"zoophonics\" methodology, then it is worth the money to buy a set, and display the cards prominantly on the wall at home for the kid(s) to see.Hi

I personally think that it is effective only when the kid(s) are having fun. I personally selected Zoophonics for my kid(s) because most of the animals can be found in an enclosured place (zoo) where the kid(s) can see and learn at the same time. I have brought my kid(s) to the zoo a few times just to see animals and then tried to go thru' the phonetic sounds with the kid(s) whenever a familiar animal is in sight. Lately, my kid is able to shout out the animal name followed by its phonetic sounds e.g. (polar) bear, aillgator etc.
I attached a youtube clip - shows a kindergarden teacher going thru' all the moves of the letters used in Zoophonics.

Hi KiasuPig
What does the pack you bought consist of? The one I saw consist of the following.
– 3 Packs of cards from A-Z with Big caps, Small caps and cards with only the animals? The size of the cards are around our palm size.
– A DVD I think or CD
– A book (can’t remember what’s that for)
– A bag
Is that what you got?
I have watched the youtube you attached. The action done by Peter is more polished.
Which Zoophonics branch did you send your child to and how much does it cost? -
Hi,
I am also interested to send my 1 year old girl to Zoophonics Tampines Branch.
Any feedback? Is it good? How much? -

My 2.5yo son is attending Zoo-Toddlers (enrichment) now.
I personally feel that they don’t really learn much phonics in the class. The Zoo Phonics song was only sung ONCE & it was rather fast, so my son did not catch it.
It’s more like an activity class. But I’m still keeping him there as he likes it & he’ll move up to the Nursery class in 6mths’ time.
I’m practising the sounds with him at home using free resources from the internet (did not purchase the enrolment pack as I personally feel that it’s quite exp just for some cards which I already have something similar from Hooked On Phonics). -

I feel the same way as you regarding Zoophonics.
My boy attended Zoophonics for a few months when he was about 2 years old. He did not learn any letter sounds from the class. Like you said the teacher went through all the letters so fast ! I also did not like it that they associate an animal with each letter. I know other parents think it is fun, but I think it is very confusing for kids.
After 5 months, I withdrew him from the class. I bought the Leapfrog Letter Factory DVD for less than $20. He learnt all the letter sounds from this DVD
He is still asking to watch Letter Factory now, even though he is already reading very well !

Tamarind,
My boy enjoys the class, so my hb & I have decided to keep him there & just wait for him to progress to the next class. The next class focuses more on reading skills & some simple writing skills, so it’ll be more beneficial.
He already know all the letter sounds through watching Leapfrog DVDs & he likes the series on blending sounds.
I’ve also given feedback to the centre about introducing the letter sounds & they said that they’ll try slow down & let the kids learn.
