24hr-mum:
I suggest you feedback to the teacher her problem and monitor her work closely and feedback more if you feel certain things are not resolved.that's great.
my p3 girl started compo classes since p1 (joyhouse, success learning at p1, then mindstretcher at p2).
p1 no exam
p2 sa2 compo she got 6.5/10 - is this considered good or average?
her friend who didnt hv tutiion got 6/10, so i wonder if the 2-year compo class werent effective (tho i know my girl being 1 jan bb, is 1 year younger than her peer).
her lang is ok, did apply some phrases but content just not illogical, just like her character lah...
hence i m trying tas now....

Thanks everyone for the feedback, it seems that TAS is quite good. What if my child is quite average, is there a chance that TAS may not be able to help as her grammar is quite weak. Any comments?

DS1 is attending the P1/P2 class. Thus far, based on what I can make out. They give out sheets with grammar rules and teacher will go through that with them. There are exercises to reinforce and I see DS1 circling out the key words in each question. Class is quite interactive - they have Q&A session (I gather it was grammar and its application they were testing on) and points are awarded to children who could shout out the answer.
He just came back last week and told me that his teacher told them to be kaypoh in comprehension - ie read the question first and then read the passage. This is a good trick - one that I forgot to tell him before.
They've started the library this week. DS1 discovered Spiderwick chronicles - he was given book 4. We finished that book and went out to library to borrow the others becos we can't wait to find out what happened prior and post.

how do they teach compre?
-
Personally, if you ds is already very good and in GEP, then perhaps he should just go for creative writing classes because his basics would be strong already. He would not need to attend classes for compre, grammar etc.
Look out for purely creative writing classes for him. TAS has but not many. Or you could join holiday classes that focus on writing. I know many centres have classes that focus just on cw. -

In the class they act out the phases(like show & tell - only 1 paragraph and kids go home & practise to write it out.
Hi jojo,jojo:
7) The way they teach compo is interesting. Students will act out the phases so that they can remember better.
Pls share with me your thoughts if you have any.
Thanks for your feedback. Can I find out how the assistant teacher helps out? And how your kids find memorising the compo? Is it tough for them?
For my P1 girl, her compo is quite easy, short sentences. As for P3 girl the senternces are longer and with \"big words\" which i think my kid will learn new words at the same time. Which i think that is great!..... \"trepidation\", \"entire being\" \"cascaded\"
PM me if you are interested to register your kid. to enjoy referral incentive from TAS :snuggles: -

Thanks jojo for your sharing. I am still considering. I want to see how she does for this ca1 so may not make it time for the referral but tks for the offer.

Hi Ming,
Can help to share on the centres that typically organises holiday classes on creative writing?
Thanks.

These are the centres that my friends have sent their children to for holiday classes on creative writing:
- British council
-The Writer's Place
- The Alternative Story
I have myself sent my kids to The Alternative Story. For another friend and I who sent our kids there, we like it. The teachers were good and we like the materials and teaching methods.
For the British Council, a friend who sent her kids there said that the kids came back happy and wanting to learn more but she said she did not find the content very suitable to help for exams but she was happy still as she took it as more of an enrichment.
For The Writer's Place, another friend who sent her child there said she found it good and her child liked it although she had to learn quite a lot of phrases but her child could take it so it was good.
