Lasik

Sadly, not everyone is suitable for Lasik. While my mum went for it 2 years back, I am unable to go for it due to thin corneas. The next best thing would be artificial implants which would cost $4k per eye.

I am also thinking of artificial implants - its reversible !
Mrswongtuition, how old is yr mum? any difficulty with the lao hua part after lasik?
Read an article in the papers recently abt this lady who has the right eye corrected by lasik and the left one by implant. the result of implant is better. Disadv is that it carries higher risk of infection.
btw, anyone has done implants and care to share?
thanks! -

She had no probs with lao hua.
Only prob is that she has diabetes, so it's giving her other eye problems (cataract). In fact, she's now with TTSH to follow up on the cataract and the doctors suggested implants for her - at subsidized rates cos it's a medical necessity, not an aesthetic reason.
My friend has done implants and she told me that when she gets sore eyes, she must quickly go back to see the doc for antibiotic eye drops. Seems quite scary. The price is also another factor that I'm holding back. 8K for perfect eyesight so that I need not wear glasses? I rather save it for my son

Implant is relatively new...hope price will go down sooner.
I hv booked an evaluation appt 2 wks from now after attending the talk yesterday. Will see what the doctor suggest. I am so sick of the discomfort with contact lens (and also not cheap wearing disposal lens) and really hope lasik can help. Just worry abt the lao hua part. -
Anyone has tried epi-lasik? I heard that it is less risky compared to lasik but takes longer to recover. How about night vision? I heard night vision takes a longer time to recover too (like seeing starburst, halo, etc.)
Iβm thinking of doing lasik/epi-lasik, but kind of kia-si, afraid of side effects lahβ¦ Mine is not very serious myopia, about +3.00, so afraid about lao hua later on, so please advise! -
Out of vanity, I am also thinking of doing Lasik but afraid 1) kiasi 2) lao hua later how.
Myopia about 450...quite sian of wearing glasses, esp when it keeps sliding off my nose...not blessed with high bridge

haha, to contribute further to my kiasi-ness, the side effects of lasik may be irreversible! For me, it's also the \"pain\" of not able to wear nice nice sunglasses that I like...Out of vanity, I am also thinking of doing Lasik but afraid 1) kiasi 2) lao hua later how.

understand for lasik, for those eligible age group, it will be under-corrected to a limited extent to cater for long-sightedness in the future, esp those above 40

I think only the 1st batch who did lasik can feedback the side effects when they are in the age of laohua.

I think laohua is quite common, my DH has perfect eyesight, he still got laohua in early 40... -

Side effects like halos etc depend on the person. I have friends who just did lasik. The one who was about 250-300+ said no halos experienced, although her night vision deteriorated (ie may not see so clearly when the room light is turned off at night).

So far, they are all very happy they did IT. I'm still pondering.
