All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

During my Southview Pri PV interview…
Some of the questions:
(1) Specific Skillset of PV, relevant to school needs ?
Be very specific…
(2) If staying within 1KM of the school ?
If stay more than 2KM away, becomes a concern if there is balloting…
(3) Why choose the school… Give few reasons.
(4) Both parents to do PV ?? -
Dear all, hope you can advise me the following questions:
I am looking for the primary school in bukit timah area, my dauther now is 3 years old. I will apply to be the Parents Volunteers for one of the schoold there, for example Nanyang Primary school , however I am now still live in west area, also looking for the house in bukit timah area.My quesitions are :
1. When I apply to be the parents volunteers next year, my home address must be in bukit timah area or no need. but need to show the proof that before my daughter goes into the primary school, my home address will be in bukit timah area? the home address they will see is the mother’s home address or both?
2. For applying the parents volunteers of the Nanyang Primary school or raffles girls’ primary school, does any one have such experices to share? and normally they request you to do what? or what do you need to be good at ?
thanks -
My past experience when applying PV with Nanyang Pri...
The school require 80 hours PV work, not 40...
If the parents are engineer, HR executive, Scholar,...then..
No chance even to be shortlisted for interview.
For me, I received rejection letter, 6 months after my PV application.
Not given a chance for interview.
I guess...need specialised skillset, for the school PV.
See attached recent news link by http://www.asia1.com, about PV..

I feel that at least parent should be given a chance for interview first, and not being rejected straight away without interview.
For parents staying beyond 2KM from the school, some schools have reservation to recruit them as PV..
Cos once there is balloting for phase 2B, those staying beyond 2KM will be affected, may not be successful.
School could control number of PV, but dont forget...RC member/grass-root leaders also come under phase 2B during Pri One registration exercise. -
Wow, that was some good information KP. Question is, what kind of specialized skill set are we talking about?

Hi, I am hoping to enrol my daughter in Nanyang or Raffles Pri but I read about the PV thingy. If I have bought a house within 1km, still need to do PV. Is it a high chance or what else I should do.

If you do PV and live within 1km of the school, your chances are pretty good because if you don't get in at Phase 2B, you can try again at Phase 2C. -
so it means that I must try to get into the PV?
So which primary is better, Raffles Girls Sch or Nanyang Pri Sch -

Actually if u are staying within 1km of RGPS, I dont think u need to do PV at all. U should be quite safe under phase 2C, based on past years stats.so it means that I must try to get into the PV?

For NYPS, u would need to do PV even if u stay within 1km as high chances there would be balloting under 2C even if u stay within 1km. Do note that this school needs PVs to do 80 hrs instead of the usual 40 hrs, so be prepared. And it's not easy to get selected as a PV since they restrict the intake numbers.
I would say if you only have daughters, then move within 1km of RGPS and register there - no need to PV, no need to ballot. -

For RGPS, the interviewer is looking for u to commit beyond 40 hrs, ie to continue to PV after ur girl gets a place in the school. No concern with where u stay as typically all PVs get a place at phase 2B regardless where they stay (no balloting for past few years). -
I am looking for a school in the east, thinking of Maha Bodhi, but it does not accept PV, only members of SBF. Anyone knows if I register as a SBF member now, can I get my girl to register for 2010 P1?
